When was the last time you prioritized self-care?
Developing a self-care plan is a great way to keep yourself at your best so you can help others when they're in need. Think about the people, programs, and activities you'd like to make sure you're incorporating into your life. If it's been a while since you've participated in these things, how can you get involved again or reconnect with the people in your life?
Self-care is one of the most important things we highlight through our program. To learn more about how you can get involved, visit 4x5program.org.
When someone is struggling with their mental health, many times they won't be showing obvious signs or talking about it.
That's why Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training is so important. This training goes deeper than noticing the obvious and teaches you how to approach difficult conversations with those around you.
By learning how to help in the early stages of mental health struggles, we can work towards ending construction su***des for good. To learn more about getting MHFA certified, visit 4x5program.org.

Today is , a day to increase education and support those who need help coping with their mental health struggles. A man in his thirties once jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge. When investigations were done, they found a note back at his home that read:
“I’m going to walk to the bridge. If at least one person smiles at me on the way, I will not jump.”
Unfortunately, no one smiled at him that day.
Small acts of kindness, even something as simple as a smile, can have a significant impact on someone's life. Letting the people you work with know they are seen and making an effort to check in with them can make a big difference. Don't underestimate your ability to help those who may need it.
Construction work often requires travel or long hours away from home, leaving workers with less time to spend with their loved ones. This can lead to feelings of isolation and negatively affect their mental health. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that your team knows how to balance their work and personal life as much as possible to maintain their mental and physical well-being.
By getting your team certified in Mental Health First Aid, they will learn how to support others and take care of their own mental health. To learn more about getting certified, visit 4x5program.org.
Many construction workers feel like they can't talk about their mental health problems without being judged. This can prevent them from seeking the support they need. Our goal is that by spreading awareness about this issue and opening up the conversation, workers will feel more comfortable discussing their struggles so we can direct them to the right resources.
To learn more about our program and ways you can get involved, visit 4x5program.org.
When one of our ambassadors notices someone struggling with their mental health, one of the most important things we do is direct them to the right resources to help them with anything they may be facing. Whether individuals need emotional support, help overcoming addiction, or assistance during a crisis, there is always help available.
To get familiar with the best mental health resources to recommend, visit 4x5program.org.
The period between the first thought of su***de and the actual attempt usually lasts 10 minutes or less. This is how quickly you could lose a coworker, family member, or friend. Checking in with those around you, especially when you notice changes from their normal behavior, is vital to helping someone in need before it's too late.
In the construction industry, 5,000 workers die from su***de each year. This is why we put an emphasis on improving the mental health in this industry and keeping crews safe in Arizona and beyond.
To learn more about our program and ways you can help, visit 4x5program.org.
When you become a 4x5 ambassador, you take on an important role to ensure the safety of your crew. Ambassadors will:
- be the front line of support for a person struggling with their mental health.
- strive to make a difference in another's life when they are in need.
- maintain the confidentiality of those they help.
- "walk" beside those in need until they are safe and have healthy mental health.
Want to learn more about becoming an ambassador and how you can help build a mental health-friendly workplace for your team? Visit 4x5program.org.
Thank you to The PENTA Building Group for letting us continue to spread mental health awareness in the construction industry at their 17th Annual Safety Kick-Off event this week.
