1. OFC we will be joining .please.uk ‘s stacked lineup of international and local q***r gems, they are pulling off quite a party - all the Bristol q***rs shall be there including many of the extended Missco family. Catch residents and b2b 4pm-5:30pm in the yard 🪜

2. We’ll then be on late night duties for at the bringing you weird and wonderful disco 11-2, PLUS joined by our favourite .spicyivy 🪩

We loved kicking off this years by popping into for a chat about all things Missco, representation, q***r spaces and our Southeast Corner takeover in !

When asked what the future of Misscoteque looks like, we had to admit that we didn’t quite know…

What we do know is we aren’t going anywhere. The takeover on Sunday night had so much energy and joy. That energy was infectious and really reminds us to keep pushing to create our spaces, keeping pushing against an industry and economy that makes it really difficult to do so.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and sweated and squeezed eachother and said nice things, we haven’t seen a dance like it in a long time !

THURSDAY NIGHT WELFARE + VENUE ACCESSIBILITY + DOOR POLICY

🐄 WELFARE

Two welfare officers who have both completed PHAT welfare courses, A Bristol night sexual harassment course and hold SIA badges, will be on hand throughout the afterparty to offer support, advice and a friendly chat for anyone who needs it.

They will be wearing bright pink high vis jackets.

🐄 VENUE ACCESSIBILITY

The front door itself has one step at the front, the rest of the building is mostly flat.

there is a side door down a short side-alley (86cm/34″ at its narrowest) to the left of the main entrance. The door will sometimes be left open during the day, however if you do find that it is closed, there is a doorbell that alerts the bar staff to open it. Access to the rest of the theatre is open and smooth, including a disabled toilet.

The back row of the theatre’s seating bank is the same level as the rest of the building and a chair or wheelchair space can be reserved here on request, this can be done at: [email protected]

🐄 DOOR POLICY

As usual Misscoteque is space that is run for women, non-binary and trans folk. The Cowboys and le***ans play is open to all, regardless of gender, but we kindly ask that all cis men respect our dancefloor policy and leave the venue after the show has finished.

When the play ends all attendees will be asked to vacate the venue and then re-enter so we can check everybody’s tickets for the afterparty.

No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia / bigoted or hostile behaviour will tolerated in our space.

Rest assured NOBODY’s gender will be questioned at any point during the evening by door or venue staff.

This is just a message to say, YES, we do still exist and will be BACK II LIFE, in the new year!! So keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Thank you for your lovely messages asking when and what our future plans were and for demanding our return, we love to feel wanted hehe. We have been taking some much needed rest to focus on ourselves but cannot wait to return with bigger and better Missco intentions.

WE ARE BACK with a politically charged Pride day party and exhibition, joined by VERY special headliner, le***an icon (DJ set) 👀🏳️‍🌈

🪅Why are they in togas we hear you ask? Well, we answer, here at Misscoteque we love to dig into the archives, recontextualise and reimagine. This year we are connecting to Bristol’s long legacy of Pride celebrations, building on the notion that Pride isn’t just a party, it is a protest. Hence the togas – our poster image pays homage to the 1995 Pride West event held at the Watershed.

We have a STACKED lineup of DJs to bring you a joyous day party in the sun soaked Lost Horizon garden: expect the signature Missco flavas, moving from dusty disco records through to bass-infused euphoric underground sounds. Meanwhile, in the indoor space, there will be an exhibition exploring the history, present, and future of Pride and protest in this beautiful city. By combining the party with the exhibition, we hope to q***r the way Pride is celebrated.

The Sistxrhood stage is putting on a fundraiser for 2023 at 🏳️‍🌈❤️‍🔥

Coming together for one night only outside of the muddy Pilton fields ***rky.sets and will be bringing the best of q***r techno house, breaks, dusty old skool disco, euphoric sounds across the spectrum of UK bass genres, and a huge warm rush of radical q***r joy.

The Sistxrhood policy is run on a FLINT basis - for those who identify Femme, le***an, intersex, non-binary and trans. For one night only, we will be welcoming CIS ALLIES to come to the party and support our cause. We ask that our CIS ALLIES to come along WITH a FLINT identifying person so we know you’re a good egg and will respect the space, the ethos and essentially, eachother.

By supporting the night you will not only be getting a chance to party the night away but you’ll be helping us create an incredible space for underrepresented musicians and performers and helping to promote greater diversity and inclusivity in the music industry!

APRIL 8th we return to with Misscoteque: Handbags and Wallets 👜👝

🏳️‍🌈 Back in the 80s in the le***an pubs in Bristol, folks used playful nicknames to refer to different d**e identities. As one le***an said: Handbags were “the fem side, with more fashionable blonde hair and...office jobs and the Wallets were drivers, electricians etc and wore more masculine clothes.”

🍺 After The Elephant (a gay and le***an pub, today the Boardroom on St Nicholas street) closed on a Sunday afternoon, a large group of le***ans “would go up to the downs, take lots of alcohol and play rounders ... the wallets vs the handbags.”

🎒We want to celebrate this slice of Bristol’s le***an history, by reviving and evolving these labels. Maybe you identify as a Handbag or a Wallet? Or maybe you’re more of a Satchel? Climbing Chalk bag? Duffel? Rainbow Tote? Upcycled leather harness? Wicker basket, or a Tesco Bag for Life? 🧳🎒👛🛍
