An author lives here...

The "Ballet" vignette in the great room, featuring "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker"...and James and Gabriel... ❤

Rebel Hearts - " 'Rain'...and another (almost) climatic performance..."

Drake and Evan arrive at the garage for one of Drake's jam sessions with his band...but it's Evan who winds up taking the stage again when Drake requests he sing the song he wrote for him. The song I wrote in 2014, "Rain," pulls Evan out of his shy, quiet shell once again as he becomes someone else onstage...

When I finally take a break long enough to grab something to eat, I'm writing. I still have a book to publish this holiday season...

Full Circle - "A Very Different Thanksgiving..."

A year has passed since the fun, playful Thanksgiving in "New Beginnings," and James and Gabriel, newly separated, are struggling with the loss of their best friend and soulmate. James' mother Edna decides to give her son a much needed talking to, as only a mother can.

Breaking the two up was incredibly difficult for me; necessary for that point in the story, I just cried and cried...and that was when I did my best writing through those pages, because their feelings went onto the paper as I would have felt them myself. You can't be an outsider when you're writing; to write well, and from the heart, you have to be an active participant in the story.

New Beginnings - "Thanksgiving with the Moreaus, Part Two..."Appropriately Inappropriate Thanksgiving Dinner Conversation...Outed Engagements, Plumbing, and the 'Thaw and Bake' Surrogacy Talk..."

When we meet Patriarch Edward in "Lost Souls," he's an ultra-conservative Republican who governs his family of Philadelphia Perennials with a firm but loving hand; he insists on propriety. As he studies the great love Gabriel and James share, his viewpoints begin to shift, and he slowly, then very assuredly, changes his own way of thinking about many things; he is just one of many characters who undergoes a positive change during the series. Now, it is he who suggests discussing the surrogacy process of his gay son and his husband at the holiday table. After doing extensive research on the process, I needed to introduce this into the story somehow, since it plays such a huge part of the third book, and what better way to do it humorously around the dinner table? Bryce, as usual, can always be counted on for that humor. I'll always be madly in love with Bryce...

Rebel Hearts - "The Cliffs of Moher..."

Earlier in the book, Drake and Evan talk about taking a trip to their native Ireland together. I decided to wrap their story up with them standing on the Cliffs of Moher, looking out over the ocean, toward home. I still have to finish up the last few chapters, but we're probably looking at around 300-ish pages...certainly not an epic, but their story wasn't meant to be; it's a story about two people who look like complete opposites who are not at all...underneath the surface, they are both quiet and shy, but with an inner fire and rebel hearts... "Never judge a guy by their car, alone..." ❤

We're also here, too...

I'll say it again...I cry EVERY time. Maybe it's because I'm silly. Maybe it's because I'm a Cancer and no one does love and emotions like we do...or maybe it's just the idea that finally finding my place in the world is still so profound to me, that it triggers something in my heart, but I love what I do, and you can only do well, what you have a passion for. Anxiously churning out "Rebel Hearts," book number four...

Another new sighting...

James and Gabriel are selling in Estonia. The new book isn't on their site yet, but "Full Circle" just hit Google Books, so it should circulate pretty fast now. Still not sure why the e-books aren't showing yet. I suppose another fire and brimstone word with the publisher is in order. When you spend a year writing an 800 page epic, you want to see it out there, in ALL formats. I'm still shocked I figured out HOW to format the e-book, and got it right the first time.

Rebel Hearts - "The Secret Bomb Shelter..."

Drake moves in, and Evan lets him in on the "secret"...a hidden bomb shelter. The bomb shelter will prove significant later in the story, as another secret Evan has, is revealed...

We're steaming along full speed, determined to have Drake and Evan published over the holidays... ❤

James and Gabriel have made it to Germany...all three books... 🇩🇪

Slowly, "Full Circle" is populating sites globally. I cry every time. I'll never get tired of seeing it happen. I did this...

James and Gabriel have just arrived on an online bookstore in Italy. Gratzie! 🇮🇹

"Full Circle" is finally beginning to populate onto online bookstores and websites...slowly, but it's happening. "Lost Souls" and "New Beginnings" are already, literally, global. James and Gabriel, conquering the world. Yes, I still cry. It's the best feeling in the world. I did this. ❤

I'm an author...a romance novelist. I'm also proud to be a gay author, and romance novelist. I write love stories that are (hopefully!) beautiful, thought-provoking, maybe a little boundary-pushing, and above all, stories that I feel are all-inclusive...stories that anyone, gay or straight, would enjoy reading. We live in a world of exclusion; when I began writing, one of the most important things to me was to write stories that any reading audience could enjoy or relate to; love is love, after all, and it doesn't really matter the gender or orientation; we all feel it the same way. Whether I sell a million copies of my books, or none at all, I want to be able to look back and know that what I did write had significance, depth, and meaning. The greatest compliment I could ever hope to receive is for someone to say to me, "Wow...that was a really good story!" I love what I do, and couldn't imagine doing anything else. - JPD ❤

"Full Circle"... "You need to learn to trust your own heart again..."

Chapter Eight: After three months of recovery, Gabriel still struggles with psychological trauma from the heart attack; Bryce's medicine of humor, laughter, and love has helped immeasurably, but there is one last wall that still needs to come down, and only James can make that connection, to allow it to happen. They return to the Scottish Highlands they visited during their honeymoon, and there, in the seclusion of the same little cottage, James guides Gabriel through the most frightening part of his recovery, until they have the breakthrough needed. The hardest thing to ever face in your life is the feeling that your body has let you down, and then learning to trust it again.

Meanwhile, Timothy and Daniel share their first weekend together...

I will make sure my voice is heard, and my song is sung. I want to look back and feel in my heart, that I did something important with my voice…

When I realized I wanted James and Gabriel's story to become an ongoing series of books, I knew I would need to create many new characters, who perhaps are inaugurated into the story in a supportive role, and gradually merge into a more prominent place, as their own story becomes part of the overall story. My beloved Bryce, who I'm head over heels in love with, was the first of these characters to be written in, and gradually take on one of the most important roles in the series; Helena was another such character. When she appears in the first book, I really had no plans for her to play much more than a supportive role, but as I've said, these stories tend to write themselves, and before I knew it, she too became a major player. I've read that it's very common for new authors to start with a book series, because they can become comfortable with the characters, and then just focus on honing their skills as a writer, rather than having to create a whole new cast of characters for each new book. The other appealing thing to me about a series is the characters can grow and age, like real people, as the series moves on. I could keep this series going for years, if I wanted to. I find it all fascinating.

When you’re writing a book, it’s like having a child; along the way, you guide and nurture it, until it’s reached its maturity. Then, you’re ready to let it go, so it can tell its story…although, you’re never really ready to let go. The one thing you promise to do, is allow it to become what it’s meant to be, even if it takes a little longer to mature.

I was hoping to have this book finished already, and I’m THIS close; however, I’ve reached that point where I can rush it to the end, just to wrap it up, or…I can let the child grow up and mature properly. So, I’ll allow myself the time the story needs, and come to a beautiful ending. After all, you can’t rush love, and I’ll be sad when the streetlights come on, and I have to go inside, and leave my friends for a while anyway, until the next story begins…

During their stay at Timothy's home "The Gambrels" in Newport, Timothy is forced to defend the man he loves, as well as his newly adopted family of friends.
