It’s not so different today
Than it was years ago
When genocide was prominent
And the wall was built
And house were raided
Taking innocent lives
Its current, it’s real
Will they cry the same tears
That they cried for anne
Will the documentation that happens today
Be read page after page
In history books around the world
Will there be plays depicting
The murder of children
The starvation
The cruelty
The occupation
Whos side will history take
One girl sat in an attic
And wrote about an event
That took millions by hold
And today
Millions would rather look at their phones
Instead of educating themselves
Of the injustice that takes place
They like a skit about couples
Or kim kardashians latest plastic surgery
But swipe quickly past the broken faces
Of children
Begging to be seen for what they are
Humans
When will the world wake up
to what is really happening
Will it only take place
When death comes knocking on their own doorstep
Will they open a book
And read
The diary of the people of palestine
Or will they stop at Anne Frank

It seems in these times of utter darkness
The times it hurts my body to wake
That there is no way out
I crave to not tremble
I crave to not shake
I crave to have one day
Where my breath isn’t taken away
Slowly but surely
I know the leaves will turn
From grey to green
My chest will soon
Weigh a hundred pounds less
The birds singing
Will sound again
like music to my ears
Instead of a burden
That I can barely bear
I will look in the mirror
And love myself again
The misery
that is so tightly woven together
I’m sure it will come undone
I often get asked
And it hurts to hear
Can you see the sun?

And don’t forget to slow down and appreciate every person, every bird, every breath, and every sunset that Allah wrote for us.
