I see you.

You think nobody does but I do. The struggle is at its realest. Social media has you thinking there’s something wrong with you. Step into the real world and see that you are not an exception. You are the painful, agonizing rule.

You’re beaten down

In front of your bare cupboards, wondering when your last will run out.
Torn between sending a text for help or not.
Reading the thermometer, knowing there is no money for the doctor.
Standing in the queue, praying there’s enough on the card for tonight’s supper.
Walking to the station with clenched fists knowing that at any moment, you could be next.

You’re barely breathing but still smiling.
You wanna give up but you keep fighting.
You’re lost at sea while being an anchor for your kids.

If only someone could read your mind. Pay your debt. Watch your kids. Lift the weight of the world off your shoulders, just for a second.

But this ain't your reality.

Your FB friend’s flying to London again. You love their post while you finally sink into your broken couch that you can't even afford to fix because of this country, this life you have been placed in you never saw it coming. It baffles you. You break down while eating dinner and nobody notices. Yet you carry on. I see you. It scratches away at your soul to ask for help. “I would really appreciate it”, “This is the last time I'm asking”, not even knowing if it really will be the last time. But you so desperately want it to be. You have your close circle of family and friends, you appreciate your support structure no end, regardless of its size. There’s just a gnawing feeling that tells you it will never get easier and you are isolated in the shame of your situation.

Just know this. You are not as alone as the world may have you believe

In a room full of mothers the greater majority of us are fighting to hold on to our sanity, some just to stay alive and keep our kids alive. We’re not living that Instagram life. We’re having marital problems, working through childhood trauma, grieving, recovering from PTSD or addiction. We struggle. And we are real.

But we are relentless. Be sure Mama Bird, that the bonds of Motherhood are powerful. We will band around you when you are fragile and muted. When it seems that no one acknowledges your pain and struggle, I promise that we all see you. You are now part of a collective consciousness. A secret club of soldiers who stop at nothing fighting for their families. You have braved the stormiest seas and will come out on the other side, victorious.

This is not the end

This is your war story in the making.
