Delirium is also known as Acute Organic Psychosis / Toxic Confusional State
MOST COMMON PSYCHOSIS SEEN IN HOSPITAL
Impairment of attention is accompanied with abnormalities in perception and mood
During the acute phase, thought and speech are incoherent and memory is impaired. Episodic visual hallucinations and persecutory delusions occur.
Persecutory delusions are when the person thinks they are being threatened, mistreated or will be harmed in the future, as a consequence the patient may be frightened, restless and uncooperative.
Fortunately, delirium is often temporary and reversible!
