[Part 2]

The Takada High School swimming club is the only swimming club in the city. She started learning to swim in the second grade and wanted to be like the Senpai (seniors) in the swimming club she saw on the street. When she joined the club, she swam every day. Although some of the club members had never participated swimming competition, they all had one thing in common: they loved swimming and had fun doing it.

"When I jumped into the water with my friends to practice for the Tohoku Swimming Competition, I was able to forget about any unpleasant events."

[Part 1]
Translated an article about the 3.11 earthquake in 2011 from Sankei News.

"I thought I would never let her hand go, but we got separated."

It's been 10 years since I was a member of the swim team at Iwate Prefectural Takata High School in Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture, where seven out of the nine members and their instructor were killed by the tsunami and are missing. My hand was definitely connected to my favorite friends. Until the very end.

Search 3.11 on Yahoo Japan today and Yahoo will donate 10¢ to the earthquake!

Let's make a small difference.

Ramen

Japanese people love ramen. I always order ramen and rice at a restaurant (sometimes dumplings too lol). After finishing the noodles, I add rice in soup. Have you tried the Japanese way?

からくち

からくち (karakuchi) can mean both spicy and speaking acrimoniously. But please be careful if someone says 「あのひとはからくちだ」. It doesn't mean "the person is spicy". It means "the person speaks acrimoniously.

Tattoos

Do you have any tattoos? If you do, you might not be able to go to onsen (hot tubs) in Japan. It's because most Japanese gangs have tattoos, and onsen owners don't want them to use their hot tubs. This is sad because not only gangs but also many young people have tattoos nowadays.

"I'll be rude"

When you're invited to someone's house or entering a room, you could say 失礼します. It's polite if you say that but the literal meaning is "I'll be rude"....

Be nice if you're invited to your boss's house!!

Guess what!

I'm making a YouTube video for the first time 😆 I don't know how to make a video so I used PowerPoint lol My first video is about checking into a hotel in Japan. Stay tuned!

High Temperature

Tajimi city, Gifu marked the highest temperature on August 10th, which was 38.6°C (101.48°F) 😵 And the humidity in the city is usually 70-90% in summer.

I've heard tropical fruits like dragon fruits died from too much heat near Tokyo. I don't know if they treated properly though 🤷🏻‍♀️

多治見市で今年1番の暑さになったらしいよ。

昔、千葉の南の方でトロピカルフルーツが暑さで枯れたって話を聞いたことあるけど、、、それ本当だったらやばすぎ笑

August 6th and 9th

It's been 75 years since atomic bombs were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I'm not gonna talk about the sad history here, but please remember how important your family and friends are. Some people (including younger generations) are still struggling because of the nuclear wepons. It harms not only your body but also your children and descendants.

Never Again - No More Hiroshima And Nagasaki!

I noticed that most Japanese learners use 「だろ?」at the end of a sentence instead of 「でしょ? (It means "right?") 」. Male anime charters might use だろ? but we don't use it that often!

02/07/2020

You might think there aren't any swear words in Japanese because we don't use those kinds of words that much, but I can tell some bad phrases like "your ass hole is small"... It's more like an idiom, so I think it's fine to share it with you. Don't report me, please!

#ケツの穴小さい you can also say #器が小さい

I'm thinking to start karaoke lessons. We'll practice one of your favorite songs and you'll be able to sing it when you go to a karaoke bar with your friends. Maybe it'd be one-on-one lessons?

Let me know what you think.

Why is Karaoke popular in Japan?

Honestly, karaoke is one of ways to relieve my stress. We don't have a lot of dance culture to relieve stress. My parents say I should be nice in public, so I care too much about what other people think. You can sing and have as much fun as possible. No one is going to say anything. I think karaoke is one way of expressing yourself.

This interesting topic is from my friend, Moe. She and I went to a karaoke restaurant before and she was an amazing singer. Thanks for sharing!

My friend is writing an article for this page. I'll post it as soon as possible if I get her go sign!

What she's amazing is she wrote it in English and asked help to native speakers to post a revised article.

お楽しみに!!

I posted a comment yesterday. I got a few replies saying my Japanese was wrong (oh no). I posted 「日本に行ったことはありますか」, and they say it should be 「日本に行ったことがありますか」.

Actually this is a good point because we don't care that much about が and は and both are acceptable. Sometimes we get rid of both of them like 「日本に行ったことありますか?」.

However, if you want to use the plain/impolite form, we never say 「日本に行ったことがある?」. This sounds a bit weird. We'd say either 「日本に行ったことはある?」 or 「日本に行ったことある?」.

p.s. I'm so glad that I got the replies and had a chance to think about が and は, so thank you so much!

KitKats

There are more than 300 flavors in Japan, including wasabi, miso, and soy sauce. I haven't tried any unique flavor yet though. Would you want to try it?😬

A stupid faucet

If water was leaking from your faucet, how would you describe the situation?

You might wanna say "my faucet became so stupid" in Japanese, like "水道が (faucet) バカ (stupid) になってる (become)".

It's funny because this kind of expression is pretty common in Japanese. Things can be stupid.

Tofu ≠ cool guy

I saw a t-shirt it said "冷奴 cool guy". 冷 means cool and 奴 means a guy in Japanese, right? But if you put them together, it means tofu (冷奴 hiyayakko). Yea I know, kanji is weird 🙃

Have a great weekend!

I've heard they spend 2 yen to make a 1 yen coin...

Face Masks😷

Japanese people love face masks. Literally everyone wears a mask whenever they go outside. Why do they wear masks? Are they all sick?

The truth is this. They just want to hide their face. Some people are tired to wear makeup, so they wear masks instead. Some people use masks to prevent their skin dry.

We'd never thought face makes would be so pricy!

コーン vs とうもろこし🌽

There are two ways to call corn in Japanese. One is toumorokoshi, the other is corn (the pronunciation is like "co-own". We don't pronounce the R sound).

But surprisingly the meaning is different! If you say toumorokoshi, it means corn on the cob. We don't call it corn. If you say corn, it means corn kernels😳

Did you know that "mochi" isn't sweet and colorful? Actually it tastes just like rice, not that sweet.

I personally like eating mochi with soy sauce or kinako (soy powder and sugar). Gee why do we love soy beans so much? lol

If you're interested, search both "mochi" and 「もち(Japanese)」. Compare both of them. You'd say wow 👀
