Settling in for my second semester here in now-autumnal Weimar! ⭐𝐀𝐅𝐂𝐌 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭⭐ Welcome Melbourne-born cellist Charlotte Miles - Cello to AFCM 2023! Charlotte was the winner of both the 2021 ANAM Concerto Competition and the 2021 ANAM Best Recital Performance Prize!
Charlotte is a current postgraduate student of Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” in Weimar, and a recent graduate of the The University of Melbourne and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) where she studied with Howard Penny.
Benefitting from masterclasses with cellists including Jean-Guihen Queyras, Clemens Hagen and Alban Gerhardt, Charlotte has been awarded over 100 competition prizes, including at the 2020 Anna Kull and 2018 Gisborne competitions, and has appeared as a soloist at the Sanguine Estate, Bendigo and Vasse Felix Festivals, and on Australian Digital Concert Hall.
In 2019, Charlotte was the 3MBS Young Performer of the Year and National Young Virtuoso. In 2022, she was the Emerging Artist on cello with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and now performs nationally with both ACO Collective and the ACO.

Preparations are well underway for our Melbourne Chamber Orchestra Inspirations quartet tour this month, and Sophie, Karla, Merewyn and I are so excited to bring a beautiful program of Haydn, Shaw and Beethoven to some of the most gorgeous places in Victoria. An incredible day spent in Berlin today - a third day of masterclasses with Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt followed by an utterly extraordinary performance of the Schumann piano concerto and Brahms’ 2nd symphony by Argerich, Barenboim and the Berliner Philharmoniker which was a privilege to experience. So lucky, and so grateful. ❤️🔥
