Royal Bahamian Curling Team

Four suburban guys who decided to form a dysfunctional curling team.

Wrapped up our weekend at the Curl ON Trillium 100 Level finals with a 1-3 record.

Obviously not how we were hoping to finish, but definitely a massive learning experience for our team against top-notch competition from across Ontario in our first province-wide final.

One more tournament to go for our Club championships, but the Trillium final was our last major event of the season, and we're all looking forward to a bit downtime, and getting the golf clubs out of storage.

First, a sincere "Thanks!" to the staff and volunteers from Curling Ontario, the Whitby Curling Club , and the Oshawa Curling Club for taking time out of their Easter weekend to put on this top-notch event, and for making us feel so welcome.

Also, need to give a big shout-out to our sponsors: belairdirect , Mermaid Pools & Hot Tubs , and the Ottawa Police Association for their continued support over this past season.

Also have to recognize our beautiful wives for putting up with us chasing our curling dreams and going above and beyond on the home front while we're busy spending our evenings and weekends throwing stones at houses.

Thanks for following along, and keep an eye open for updates about our schedule for next season!

Wrapped up our Monday night regular season by winning the 'B' Division of the Carleton Heights Curling Club Monday Open League.

All about peaking at the right time!

All the curlers in this photo, including our skip, have combined for 4 Brier and 3 Scotties appearances.

A little mid-season break + team-building exercise.

28/01/2023

Took on a really good team from the Rochester Curling Club tonight in our second game, but the boys from the Carleton Heights Curling Club managed to stay undefeated and in the 'A' draw of the Schenectady Open Bonspiel.

27/01/2023

First game this morning at the Schenectady Curling Club Open Bonspiel, wearing our alternate jerseys.

Big W for the good guys from Carleton Heights Curling Club against a great Schenectady team. Next game at 1730hrs today, still alive in the 'A' draw.

27/09/2022

Clearly some rust that needs to be shaken off after our first game of the season. Tough L to start the Monday night league campaign (7-6 in 8 ends), but most importantly we gave leave for our Third to proudly wear his NB colours to honour and remember Bob and Jamie Brennan, whose lives were cut tragically short last weekend, and whose love of the game helped nurture Jon's own development as a curler.

29/07/2022

Bringing the boys together for pre-season training tonight. Planning out a few 'spiels, and breaking the news to Ryan that he's been cut.

(And then he picked up the tab, so he's back on the team).

Really looking forward to welcoming the 2023 Men's World Curling Championships to our hometown of Ottawa.

(Please note, if any countries are looking for a warm-up 'friendly', please don't hesitate to reach out. What we lack in curling talent we more than make up for in buying post-game rounds at the bar!)

It’s official! The 2023 World Men’s Curling Championship will be held at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario April 1-9! Details in our story:

*Important Team Update*

With many of our country's top curling teams reflecting on their future as this season comes to a close, we believe it's important to let our fans know what the plans are for the Royal Bahamian Curling Team.

I know this will come as a disappointment to many of you (especially our wives and employers), but I'm sad to announce that after much deliberation we have made the difficult decision to stick together thru the next quadrennial (and not only because nobody else would ever play with us).

It wasn't an easy choice for any of us. Playing this challenging game with your best friends can lead to highs (especially high bar tabs) and lows (learning how horribly out of shape we all are after one team yoga session), but to paraphrase a great philosopher: "A journey of a thousand CTRS points begins with a single step."

We'd once again like to thank our sponsors for the confidence they've shown in us: belairdirect Insurance, Mermaid Pools & Spas , and the Ottawa Police Association. Their commitment to grassroots (very, very, very grassroots) curling is unparalleled, and we couldn't keep doing this without their help. We'd also like to thank the Carleton Heights Curling Club for putting up with our shenanigans on a weekly basis. Finally, a sincere thank you to our new coach, Maggie Walsh for her monumental efforts to try make us an adequate group of misfit curlers.

Thanks everyone again for being with us as we finish up the season. Already looking forward to September.
Sincerely,
Michael Gendron
Jon Bishop
Phil Morneault
(the social media-less) Ryan Wright

A great game against some solid curlers from the Albany Curling Club today in the 'B' Final of the Schenectady Open Bonspiel, but the boys (and girl) from Carleton Heights Curling Club pulled out the victory!

Amazing weekend catching up with old friends, making new friends, and some great curling. Thanks again to the organizers and volunteers from the Schenectady Curling Club for a wonderful bonspiel.

Safe travels everyone, and see you all next year!

Our first 'spiel together in 2 years, so we had to shake off a bit of rust early, but we find ourselves playing in the 'B' Flight final today at 1230.

Sincere thanks to all the organizers and volunteers at Schenectady Curling Club for their hard work putting together this year's S.O.B. As always, you made us feel extraordinarily welcome, and we hope our "donations" at the bar mean we get invited back next year!

Also, a big thank you to our sponsors: Mermaid Pools & Hot Tubs , the Ottawa Police Association , and belairdirect Insurance, for their continued support of our curling habit.

Rise and grind curlers! The first 'spiel game of the Schenectady Open Bonspiel for the Royal Bahamian Curling Team will be taking place this morning at 1145hrs, and will be broadcast live on the Schenectady Curling Club YouTube channel (link below). It'll be your favourite curlers from the Carleton Heights Curling Club vs. A local rink from here in Upstate NY.

Hope y'all can tune in for a few minutes to see how sore we all are after a month and a half of no stretching!

First game of the season, *big* win for the boys: 8 - 2.

Perfect ice at the club tonight, and undefeated in our spiffy new threads. Great to be out on the ice with the boys again.

We're working on becoming the boy band of curling teams, only the middle-aged dad version of boy bands.
