While gaining fat appears relatively straightforward, reducing fat is undoubtedly physiologically, and psychologically more challenging. This is because human are built to hold onto energy to survive.
Our understanding of how fat loss occurs has been corrupted by various means over the years…
Google, social media, friends and family will all suggest the ‘best’ way to lose body fat. Most sources concur that one has to consume less food. With this in mind, many attempt to severely reduce episodes of eating and minimise portion sizes.
The problem with intuitive use of the above method is that alteration of body composition is not subjective. Instead, it answers objectively to the balance of energy.
Therefore, unmeasured reduction of food in the form of meals/snacks/drinks may be redundant for fat loss unless actual energy within consumed meals/snacks/drinks contain fewer calories than prior consumptions.
As my example shows, reducing eating episodes and food volume does not guarantee a calorie deficit. Here, an individual is hoping that simply ‘eating less’ will support their goal. But the reality is that the individual is not aware of the caloric density they are still consuming.
Instead, accurate calculation of the individual’s physical information and activity level can determine an approximate TDEE, and subsequently calculate values of energy required to enter a state of caloric deficit. Despite what you hear, science shapes the world we live in - including our ability to alter our physical appearance. The simplicity of adhering to a consistent caloric deficit is your fat loss science.
It doesn’t force you to restrict carbs, do torturous workouts or pointless detoxes. Instead, energy balance is the sole decider of fat loss/gain and it is free for everyone. If fat loss is the goal, you may want to make use of it, or at the very least appreciate it.🔥
