First day back in person & in a new placement! I couldn't have asked for a better first day. I'm excited to learn and see what the world has to offer 🀍

Β° catch up time! I've been providing speech services in a school setting since September via computer. It's not easy providing services from a virtual school setting and it's challenged me in ways I could have never imagined. I was emotionally, physically, and mentally drained but I kept pushing because I knew there was light at the end of the tunnel. I'm still trying to get back into my old self, but I know with time, things will get better.πŸ’«

Welcome Back! It's been a rough few months with the pandemic but don't forget to take care of yourselves first!

During the quarentine, I have discovered and recieved my free gift of tools. I was lucky enough to recieve a bear bottle kit with straw, some chewing tools, and a tips/techniques manual!

β€’ Black Lives Matter β€’
I cannot express how much I have learned from friends and the deeper meaning behind the black lives matter movement. Please, take the time and be educated!

Personal side story, I went into the city and as I came out of the subway I witnessed one of the marches. It was an empowering movement. I cannot describe how it felt to see so many people come together and march down the busy Midtown New York City streets.

Who remembers the cranial nerves?! Definitely not me! There are tons of mnemonic devices such as "oh, oh, oh to touch and feel very good velvet, such heaven" to help ya out!

I will begin Tele-practice/therapy soon and have accepted this is the new norm. As much as I was against this idea, I have let go and told myself "this is how it has to be for now". We have to accept this new method for not only our health but also for our clients. This will not be forever, but take this opportunity to learn a new skill.

Did you know SLP's are much needed to treat π—–π—Όπ˜ƒπ—Άπ—±-𝟭𝟡 patients? In hosptials, SLP's are teaming up with other health professionals to monitor patients and create plans. When patients are intubated and on ventilators for days, there will be bruising in the trachea and affect the vocal cords. When patients come off, the muscles will be weak and voices will be hoarse.

SLP's are trained to rehab these muscles and help patients gain their essential communication functions.
Of course there is an in depth description of how SLP's are needed frontlines, if you need more info please leave a comment!

I appreciate how this field allows us to explore different routes. We don't have to stay in cubical from 9-5, attend boring meetings etc. As I am in the midst of graduate school I'm learning about working in school settings, early intervention, health care, rehab centers, private etc. Don't forget to explore all your options!

I'm sure many of you don't know what a speech language pathologist is. We prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech language, social communication and swallowing disorders. We range from helping newborns to our beloved grandparents! We have a diverse work environment ranging from schools, private practice, rehab centers, to early intervention. This is a broad field and I am more than happy to break it down ❀
