As an entrepreneur, especially a startup founder, your biggest job is to hold yourself accountable for EVERYTHING when it comes to achieving your goals. There will be a million reasons/excuses under the sun to keep you from fulfilling your vision.

The list of challenges is massive: bad information, bad economy, gatekeepers, lack of funds, bad advice, unsupportive relatives, illness, fatigue, burnout, emergencies, your own inadequacies, and many more are all things that get in the way of success. Some seem justified while some do not.

One key to making it to your destination is to first understand that any and all of these things can happen at ANY time. Your job is to find ways everyday to navigate through, around, and over them. Creating a mindset that "I will never stop" is the only way. This life is hard, to put it mildly.

You must also understand that you will have to adapt as the environment around you changes. While your idea will need to evolve as you learn more, you must also do everything to protect the original essence of why you had the idea in the first place. Expert consultants who are phenomenal in their field will give you advice that works for many scenarios. At the end of the day, you have to evaluate if the tool they are offering is the right tool for the problem you are trying to solve. Sometimes your challenges require creative solutions. Consultants will often try to change your idea into a problem they are equipped to solve. It doesn't mean they are wrong in general but they may be wrong for you. You have to recognize that and take leadership of those whom you bring into your circle and how you allow yourself to be affected by them.

One thing I did not mention in the list of challenges is distraction. Distraction will kill your time, your energy, your focus, and your direction. Distraction comes in the form doom scrolling, escapism, excessive unproductive meetings, over planning, and even bad advice which takes you in the wrong direction.

In the end, if you fail, people will look at YOU. No one will remember those who hindered you along the way. No one will give you a pass because you weren't given a chance or given bad advice. No one will consider your background and what you started with. You must finish the race you started. If you want it, get it. Empower people to help you because the flip side of this message is that you cannot do it alone. Work with the right people for your vision, make the hard decisions, and finish it. That is why you are here!

Had three investor pitch meetings yesterday. One scheduled for today and another tomorrow. All were booked by a previous investor who is waving our flag and speaking our name. That's what strategic partnerships look like. This is definitely out of my comfort zone but a necessary part of doing business. This will be our year!

In my company, there are 16 of us dedicated to making it a success. To say it isn't easy in an understatement. We are still pre-revenue so these people are dedicating themselves and sacrificing their time to see this vision come to fruition. Most of us left the corporate life to do things differently.

One of the things I am doing differently from the environment I came from is to lead with compassion. I understand that everyone on this team has a different background and a different perspective on life. In order to harness someone's superpower, you have to embrace the challenging parts that make us human. The traditional work environment tends to try to sterilize people into submission. Over the last 6 months, I have seen more support among these individuals than I have seen in most of my 25 year career in tech.

I know we will be successful. Every challenge brings us closer. While I am working to complete two projects, my team literally built and launched an entire brand in less than two weeks. That announcement is coming soon. In the meantime, meet the family that will make Sheldon Media a game changer.
