Rize Kamishiro (神代 利世, Kamishiro Rize) was a ghoul and the foster daughter of Matasaka Kamishiro. In the latest, she came in as twenty-first.
Born into the Washuu Clan, Rize was the illegitimate daughter of former CCG chairman Tsuneyoshi Washuu, where, as a child, she escaped from her clan and organization V. She was known under her nickname Binge Eater (大喰い Ōkui, "Binge Eater" or "Gluttony", literally "Big Eater"). Due to her eating habits, Rize was a threat to most ghouls in various wards in Tokyo before her death in the Steel Beam In
cident where her kakuhou was used in the kakuhou transplant surgery to transform Ken Kaneki into a one-eyed ghoul. Rize later was discovered alive and captured by Dr. Akihiro Kanou where her kakuhou was farmed to transform Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa, and Souta Washuu-Furuta into one-eyed ghouls. Eventually, she was used as the host for the body of Dragon (竜, Ryū), indirectly responsible for the ghoulification of Tokyo, before she was finally put out of her misery at the hands of Ken Kaneki. Etymology
The name Rize means "benefit, advantage" (利) (ri) and "world" (世) (se/ze). Rize's surname Kamishiro means "god" (神) (kami) and "generation" (代) (shiro). In the first character popularity poll, Rize was ranked eighth. Sen Takatsuki's The Black Goat's Egg was a book Rize and Ken Kaneki liked reading from Chapter 1. Coincidentally, the book's setting and characters shows a resemblance of the two. Rize is similar to The Black Goat that has a gluttonous appetite for humans, and Kaneki, who was transplanted with Rize's organs, can be interpreted as The Black Goat's son. Kaneki's experiences in the ghoul world and the struggles with his ghoul nature show a parallel to the book's protagonist. In the English dub, Rize shares the same voice actress as Mirajane Strauss from Fairy Tail. Both characters are known for their seductive appearance and monstrous power. In the anime, Rize shows up to Kaneki several times as a hallucination whenever he was hungry or struggling against his ghoul instincts. In the manga, the hallucination of Rize does not come to Kaneki until he has been tortured and he is mentally at his lowest. In Tokyo Ghoul Trump, Rize is featured as the "Queen of Hearts" along with Kaneki. Sui Ishida has stated that Rize is his type among ghoul women. Rize shared the same birthday with Hooguro.
