Paul Pogba could have been competing in Champions League for Juventus, Real Madrid or Barcelona this year, but he says he signed for Manchester United for the second time running for one reason: unfinished business.

United brought Pogba back to the fold for a world record fee of €105 million (£89.3m, $116.4m), but Pogba says he turned down offers from world soccer’s two biggest clubs because of a feeling in his heart.

“I came here because I have targets, it’s a big challenge for me,” Pogba told SFR Sport. “I could have also gone to Real Madrid or Barcelona, they were interested. I chose to return, because I had that in my heart. It was my feeling that brought me here.

“I want to win with Manchester United, I’ve never won with them. I had always said that I would return — I didn’t know when — because it’s a club that I like a lot.”

Pogba left United originally in search of regular playing time, famously rejecting Sir Alex Ferguson’s offer of a new contract to make his name at Juventus. He played for four years with the Italian champions before rejoining United, and now he says he’s back because he wants to win trophies.

“I hadn’t finished,” Pogba added. “I left because I wanted to play. I hadn’t done what I had wanted to do here. I want United to become the great United again. That’s my challenge here.”

Pogba is back like he says he always wanted, but he’s only 23 years old, and there’s still a strong chance he’ll still end up in another team’s shirt, especially with the interest he’s already drawn from both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Already in his young career, he’s moved from Le Havre, to United, to Juventus, and now back to United — the call to follow in the footsteps of former United stars Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham, jumping from England to Spain, could prove too much to resist.

Barça reportedly had an option to sign Pogba in 2015, but were unable to complete the deal due to the club’s presidential elections.

“Last year we agreed with Juve that if they wanted to sell Pogba during that window we would have priority — that was what we had,” said director Albert Soler in September.

“[Ariedo] Braida helped us get that priority, but Juve did not want to sell and we did not need to try and push it. We were in an electoral period and a signing of that calibre could not be made by a provisional board.”

According to Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, Real Madrid boss and fellow Frenchman Zinedine Zidane also had Pogba atop his priority list before he ended up at United.

“Zidane wanted [Pogba] beside him,” claimed Raiola. “Zizou was a great player and Real Madrid are a big club, but, for me, Manchester United are stronger with Pogba. Real Madrid would not be.”

Pogba had a rough second beginning in a United shirt, but since then, he’s settled in nicely, becoming one of the team’s most important players. He looks set to stay with United for the foreseeable future, but he’s still young, and it’s unlikely he’ll spend the entirety of his remaining playing days at Old Trafford.

He’s got a five-year contract with the Red Devils, and he doesn’t look like he’s moving anytime soon. But there’s no telling what his heart will tell him in a few years’ time once he finishes what he set out to do at Manchester.

Ronaldo, Messi and Suarez lead the FIFA Best Player of 2016 shortlist
By Ryan Rosenblatt
NOV 04, 2016 1:16P ET

FIFA will no longer hand out the Ballon d'Or, so they're going to give out their own award for the best player in the world and they've narrowed it down to 23. Who will take home the honor?

Sergio Aguero
As always, the question is whether Aguero is fit because when he is, he's deadly. He was fit for much of 2016, which is why he poured in goals for Manchester City. But his lackluster showings for Argentina won't help his case.

Gareth Bale
Bale may always play second fiddle to Cristiano Ronaldo, but he won the Champions League again last season and took Wales to the Euro semifinals. Yes, he lost to Ronaldo there, but Ronaldo was working with a lot more talent on Portugal than Bale was with Wales.

Gianluigi Buffon
The 38-year-old was supposed to have fallen off by now. And yeah, he has a bit, but he's still pretty great. Racking up another Serie A title with Juventus is nice too.

Getty Images Getty Images
Kevin De Bruyne
Aguero may be City's best player, but De Bruyne looks like the Citizens' most important. He's not going to win the award, or even really be in the mix, this year, but he could in the years to come.

AMA Sports Photo Agency Getty Images
Antoine Griezmann
Griezmann has long been a good player, but he made the leap to great this year. He racked up goals to help Atletico Madrid to the Champions League final, but he was even more impressive at the Euros. He won the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament, with six goals and two assists in seven matches to establish himself as one of the best players in the world.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Is he going to win this award? No chance. But he's Zlatan, so he's here.

Andres Iniesta
He's now 32 years old and his hair is nearly gone, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a better passer than Iniesta. Even now.

N'Golo Kante
Leicester's amazing run to the Premier League title was due in large part to Kante. He was the league's best midfielder and he's proving himself to be great for Chelsea this season. In between, he only helped France to the Euro final.

Jean Catuffe Getty Images
Toni Kroos
Kroos didn't really settle in at Real Madrid in his first season, but he did last season and helped them take hom the Champions League. Now, he's arguably in the best form of his life, as he proved in making the Team of the Tournament at the Euros.

Boris Streubel Getty Images
Robert Lewandowski
Last season, Lewandowski became the first player since 1977 to score 30 goals in the Bundesliga and this season he already has seven goals. If you're talking best strikers in the world, Lewandowski is in the conversation.

Riyad Mahrez
Along with Kante and Jamie Vardy, Mahrez led Leciester to the Premier League title. He was arguably their best player, taking home PFA Player of the Year in the process.

AMA Sports Photo Agency Getty Images
Lionel Messi
Messi won this award last year -- the fifth time he's done so -- and had another terrific year this time around. He helped Barcelona take home the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles, not to mention leading Argentina to the Copa America Centenario final. Messi is always in the mix for this award, but he's probably not the favorite this year.

AMA Sports Photo Agency Getty Images
Luka Modric
The Real Madrid midfield is flawed, but Modric is the metronome who dictates pace and space, allowing the Merengues to thrive dispite their issues. He has that Champions League title to prove it too.

Manuel Neuer
He's the best goalkeeper in the world and if you argue otherwise, you're wrong.

Getty Images Bongarts/Getty Images
Neymar
More goals, more assists and he took home Olympic gold on home soil. Not a bad year.

Mesut Ozil
Ozil has never been better than he is right now. It doesn't make him the best player in the world, but he's really, really good. We'll see about next year, if he can lead Arsenal to that elusive Premier League title.

Not bad.

Paul Pogba
2016 was supposed to be the Year of Pogba. It wasn't. He didn't win the Champions League or the Euros and was criticized for not being a dominant player in every match. He was merely really, really good and earned a world record €105 million transfer.

Sergio Ramos
Real Madrid's biggest flaw is their defense, but Ramos keeps it together, or at least together enough to be champions of Europe.

Cristiano Ronaldo
He won the Champions League.

He won the Euros.

That alone is good enough for most stars to take home this award. But because he's Ronaldo, he also added a ton of goals, took home Euro Silver Boot, equalled the record for most all-time goals in the Euros and, well, was Ronaldo.

There is one favorite for this award. A very, very heavy favorite. And it's Ronaldo.

Juan Manuel Serrano Arce Getty Images
Alexis Sanchez
Alexis became just the second player in Chile history to earn his 100th cap this summer at Copa America Centenario. You know, the tournament where he led his country to a title and won the Golden Ball.

Luis Suarez
Suarez was the best player in the world for the 2015/16 club season. He topped Ronaldo and Messi as La Liga's leading scorer and almost single-handedly pulled Barcelona out of their late-season slump to hold onto the title. But this award is for club and country over all of 2016 and Suarez's injury during Copa America Centenario won't help.

Jean Catuffe Getty Images
Jamie Vardy
Vardy was the Premier League's second leading scorer last season and took home Premier League Player of the Season as Leicester won the league. He also scored four goals for England on the year, including one at the Euros. That he, a player who was generally a nobody until just a couple years ago, is even on this list is astounding.

LIONEL MESSI SENTENCED TO 21 MONTHS IN PRISON OVER TAX FRAID
July 6, 2016 6:50 AM
The 29-year-old has also been given a €2million fine for three counts of tax fraud, it is claimed.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison after being found guilty of fiscal fraud, according to widespread reports in Spain.
The 29-year-old has also been given a €2million fine for three counts of tax fraud, it is claimed. His father is believed to have been handed the same prison sentence and a smaller fine of close to €1.5m.

Under Spanish law, neither Messi nor his father would be required to spend any time in prison if the sentence is shorter than two years.
Messi and his father were accused of defrauding Spanish authorities by failing to pay tax on image rights in 2007, 2008 and 2009. They have the right to appeal the sentence.

The Argentine FA (AFA) has threatened to pull the nation out of the Copa America Centenario after accusing the government of "clear interference."

Argentina are among the favourites for the tournament in the United States and are due to play their first match against holders Chile in Santa Clara, California, on June 7.

However, their participation has been thrown into doubt by the AFA after the Argentine government suspended the federation's presidential elections, which had been scheduled for June 30, and appointed two inspectors to investigate allegations that TV revenues had been misappropriated.

AFA executive secretary Damian Dupiellet told radio station La Red that an emergency board meeting would decide whether the national team should be brought back to Argentina from their pre-tournament base in California.

"The elections are suspended for 90 days and could be suspended for 90 days more," Dupiellet said, according to Clarin. "Two inspectors have been sent to carry out an internal review. This is clear interference in the life of the AFA."

FIFA has suspended a number of nations in recent years for government interference, including Nigeria, Cameroon and Indonesia, and Dupiellet added: "We will ask CONMEBOL and FIFA to evaluate if this is against their institutions' rules.

"The Executive Board will decide tomorrow [Tuesday] if the national team must return to Argentina."

Argentina captain Lionel Messi is hoping to lead Argentina to their first major international trophy since 1993.
News of the country's Inspeccion General de Justicia -- a department within the Argentine ministry of justice -- suspending the elections was confirmed in a statement on the AFA website.

"The AFA has received a demand from the Inspeccion General de Justicia that today will be analysed by the management body in a meeting of the Executive Committee," the statement said. "The AFA informs that it has received a message from the Inspeccion General de Justicia regarding the suspension of elections set for next June 30, and appoints two inspectors for a period of 90 days. This demand will be analysed by the Executive Committee in a meeting today, at 18:00 hours, and then a decision will be taken."

Argentine newspaper Clarin reported that "financial and administrative turmoil" is the reason the government has moved to suspend the election.

La Nacion said federal judge Maria Servini de Cubria is currently investigating the handling of the money earned from the "Futbol Para Todos" TV programme, which is overseen by the central government and was a project of former Argentina president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

Fernandez de Kirchner's successor, Mauricio Macri, is a former president of Argentine club Boca Juniors, and a backer of Servini de Cubria's investigation.
