I think God daily for the things and opportunities he has blessed me with. Every day I thank God for the opportunity to be married to my beautiful and amazing wife, the opportunity to be the father and together with my wife raise our kids in Christ, and the opportunities to minister/preach/serve people for God. Today like many others in the USA I thank and praise God for the opportunity to live in a country where I am free to openly talk about Jesus, his love for everyone, and his gift of freedom from sin through Forgiveness/His Spirit/Eternal Life.

And this year the 4th of July is more exciting for me because my older kids are beginning to understand that there is something bigger to this day than just a big party. They are realizing that the different things we do have significance. And you may ask how do I know this? Because the questions are flying a mile a minute. Questions like, "Why are there so many flags everywhere this week?", "What does the flag mean?", "Can I use the flag as a blanket?", "Why is the town having a parade?", "Why do people shoot off Fireworks?", "Why don't we get presents on the 4th of July?", and my favorite "Does God celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks too?" These are just a small sample of the questions I am hearing now and I love hearing and answering all of them.

I will admit a few years ago I used to get annoyed when I would get asked a million questions in 1 hour and I would get to a point where I would ask the questions to stop for a while. Then the Holy Spirit convicted me, "Joey, how often do you come to me seeking answers to questions? Have I ever gotten annoyed or turned you away?" And then I realized asking questions is how we grow and mature physically, mentally, and spiritually. But too often in our world today we get told to quit asking questions and just enjoy life.

Jesus tells us the opposite of this in Matthew 7:7-8, "“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

In order for us to know Christ, to grow in Christ, and to mature our relationship with Christ we all need to start by asking questions to God in prayer and seeking His answers in his word. God has also given us godly men and women who we can ask questions and they can help direct us and explain the answers God gives in his word.

I know like me and my children many of you have questions about God, Jesus, the Bible, his church, and so much more. And God has put it on my heart that as the church and as a minister at the First Church of Christ in Covington it is important for all of us together to seek the answers to these questions.

So starting today I am going to ask that if you have a question about God, church, the Bible, Christianity, or any other spiritual question that you are seeking an answer for, please message it to me, ask it in the comments, or ask me in person. Then starting in August during the sermon time, together we will see what God's answer is and how we can respond to that answer.

Thank you for reading this and remember never quit Asking, Seeking, and Knocking because God has promised he will answer you.
