Another Suri and Huacaya Alpaca scarf. This time I’m using the Suri as the weft. And not just any Suri. This golden yarn is from our 12x Champion Big Timber Kahuna’s Josef. Calling this scarf Sassy Saffron!

New 100% alpaca scarf fresh off the loom. Calling this one Mossy Creek.
Blend of Suri and Huacaya yarn. Love its drape and softness.

Finished the Forest Creek alpaca scarf recently. The crazy Sept Oregon fires delayed my progress a little. Handwoven with 100% Huacaya yarn. I used our solid teal yarn as the warp and the Happy Hounds Alpaca variegated yarn as the weft. Interesting pattern it created. It’s always a surprise!

I’ll be mixing it up on the next weaving project. Saffron Suri with Greystone Huacaya. The Saffron Suri yarn is from our own 12x Champion Kahuna’s Josef, while the variegated Greystone Huacaya yarn is from Happy Hounds Alpacas. This will be a study of contrasts. Think I’ll call this scarf “Saffron Stone”

Decided to use the teal yarn on the warp and the variegated yarn as the weft on this 100% Huacaya alpaca scarf. I like the pattern it creates so far. It’s always a surprise, which makes it interesting. Think I’ll call this scarf, Forest Creek.

Finished! 100% Grown in Oregon Suri Alpaca scarf, “Oregon Berry”. Hand woven with ❤️. Yarn provided by our Big Timber alpacas: Tahiti White Pearl, Sweet 16 and Bois De Rose.

Annual shearing is over and alpaca fleeces are ready to go to the mill to be transformed into our beautiful alpaca yarn!!
Now onto the next weaving project. I’m feeling some suri purple-raspberry with a touch of Bois De Rose seems right.

Luxury Yarns, Weaving and Fiber Designed Especially for You

Luxury alpaca yarns, hand woven alpaca scarves, rugs and other accessories uniquely designed by Susan King in her Big Timber Weaving Studio. Custom weaving available upon request.

Big Timber Weaving Studio specializes in Oregon alpaca yarns, roving and raw fleeces. Our soft, natural suri and huacaya alpaca fiber is quality tested to ensure a highly desirable product. Our alpacas are home raised, using sustainable farming methods that are environmentally friendly. Each animal is hand selected for its superior fiber traits that translate into amazingly soft and warm products, such as scarves, gloves, hats, socks, blankets and rugs.

Our fiber is harvested annually from each alpaca in a humane and safe manner and then carefully cleaned and sorted. We then send our sorted fiber to cottage mills in Tennessee and Washington to be processed into our fine yarns and rovings. Grown in Oregon and made in the USA.
