🇪🇸 Last stop Barcelona (& it was where I embarked but I was too excited about boarding Scarlet Lady to think about the city)

Barca is so much more than just a late-night party town, the capital of Catalonia is full of tranquil, museum-lined mornings and afternoons, sitting with a drink people watching or taking in the stunning views of the Med.

With its laid-back attitude, fresh-from-the-sea cuisine, and thriving art scene, Barcelona is the envy of every other Mediterranean city. No other stop on the Mediterranean oozes culture like Barcelona. Thanks to the famous Antoni Gaudí’s avant-garde architecture and influence,

You can’t come here without seeing La Sagrada Familia and La Rambla and I do love a wander around its port. I spent alot of time here in my early 20’s when I worked for Iberia Airlines and I have used it as a stop off a few times when heading up into Andorra ⛷️ but what a city.

I didn’t have as much time here but managed to get a shot of the city from the plane and if you zoom in, you can see the ship on one and La Sagrada Familia on the other.

What a voyage, thank you very much Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages & Counsellors for a fabulous adventure.

🇮🇹 Next stop should have been Marina de Carrara, which is so named because it is the port for one of Italy’s most famous artisan products: Carrara marble. Unfortunately for the safety of us and the ship, the captain 🧑‍✈️ had to change direction due to 50 mph winds so a day at sea it was.

If we had docked here, there are usually so many options for day trips from two of the most famous seaside towns on the Italian Riviera - Portofino and Santa Margherita to Luca, Florence & Pisa.

My planned excursion was going to be Portofino , which is a fishing village with pastel-colored houses, high-end boutiques and seafood restaurants fringe its Piazzetta, a small cobbled square overlooking the harbour, which is lined with super-yachts. There is a path that leads from the Piazzetta to Castello Brown, a 16th-century fortress and museum with art exhibitions and panoramic views of the town and the Ligurian Sea.

Santa Margherita is its more affordable neighbour which I am told is soo beautiful and more affordable than Portofino. Famous for its seafood, in particular its red shrimp so shame I didn’t get chance to try it. An excuse to come back.

The crew put on more activities than usual on the ship so keep us entertained so I enjoyed a MAC eye make up workshop, a music quiz, burnt some additional calories in the gym 💪 & sampled some more cocktails 🍸 plus he had told us we will be detouring to another port in place of missing today so keep you posted!
