This National Parent Leadership Month, we are proud to nominate Cameia Johnson Williams, a parent whose active involvement with Great Start sets a standard for family engagement. With two children, Bryson and Christien Williams, thriving in our program, Mrs. Williams's commitment to their education and well-being is nothing short of extraordinary.

As a member of the Policy Council, Mrs. Williams is a valued voice for Great Start, consistently advocating for parent involvement and leading by example. Her participation and leadership extend to Family Engagement Network Meetings, Learning Parties, and numerous center events like trunk-a-treat, fall festivals, and CCR Fun Day.

The Alabama Head Start Association is thrilled to recognize Mrs. Williams not just for her dedication to her own children but for her willingness to uplift the entire Great Start community. In light of the teacher shortage at Great Start, Mrs. Williams's generosity shines as she stays after morning drop-off to assist with breakfast, providing much-needed support. Her actions truly embody the spirit of Family Engagement.

Azaire's compromised immune system presents many challenges, but Hazel faces each with courage, ensuring that Azaire receives the necessary medical attention from specialists in Gastroenterology and Nephrology.

Maranda Pruitt is very caring, a hard worker, a true partner to Childcare Resources Head Start Program, and she truly loves her kids. If there is anything going on in the program at New Beginning Christian Child Development Center, she is going to participate and assist where she is needed. Ms. Pruitt attends parent meetings and if she is unable to make one, she is eager to know what was discussed. She provides Childcare Resources with all health and dental forms timely, exhibits great communication, and has a great relationship with our staff as well. She's fun to work with and to be around. Ms. Pruitt is a role model for other parents at the center.

We are beyond proud to celebrate our exceptional leader, Churmell Mitchell, Executive Director of Head Start, for his remarkable achievements!

🎉 Not only is he a devoted father and esteemed member of the Alabama Parent Advisory Council, but he has also been honored with an appointment by the Governor of Alabama as a Board Member for the Children's Trust Fund.

But that's not all – Churmell has been awarded the prestigious Birth Father Award by Casey Family Programs, recognizing his outstanding contribution and dedication to families and children. 🏆

Churmell's journey is truly inspiring. As a Head Start alumnus and former Policy Council President during his time as a Head Start parent, he has always prioritized serving and creating opportunities for our children, just as he was afforded. 🌱

His leadership not only shines within our state but also resonates on a national and global scale. Churmell's goal is to bring us to the forefront has been fulfilled, showcasing his unwavering commitment to our cause and community.

We just had an unforgettable day at the "African Drumming Socialization" event with Sahi On Ko Djony at Lee Community Center! A celebration of rhythm, culture, and unity in honor of Black History Month. Parents and children alike danced to the beat, creating an incredible atmosphere of togetherness. 🥁💖

Our day was filled with joy, from sharing a delicious meal together to bonding over stories and laughter. Plus, a memorable one-on-one basketball game with a dad who truly showed me what "iron sharpening iron" means. It's these moments that remind us of the power of community and the role of fathers in shaping the future. 🏀👨‍👧‍👦

I'm thrilled to witness the positive impact of Alabama Head Start across our state. Today was a testament to our mission: HEAD START WORKS. Let's keep supporting this amazing work at UAB Early Head Start and beyond. Together, we're creating leaders for tomorrow, today. 🌟

Major kudos to our fantastic grantee, ACHR - Alabama Council on Human Relations, Inc. ACHR! 🙌 They played a key role in gifting OHS Director Garvin a monumental heart filled with handprints from our amazing Head Start champions! 🎁❤️ Each bag contained a specially crafted item, symbolizing our unwavering commitment and was shared with key legislators during our Capitol Hill visit! 🏛️🤝

Let's give a standing ovation to our Alabama team! 🌟💪 Despite being perceived as underdogs at the NHSA Winter Institute, we emerged as trailblazers, leaving an unforgettable mark on Capitol Hill! 🎤🏛️ A huge shoutout to a team of strong women who, alongside me, executed a brilliant strategy and achieved our goal as a united and collaborative force! 👭🌐
