It's National Biscuit Day! 💚

Last year, the children of our community made heart-shaped biscuits for Grenfell to help bring them together with other children who have suffered the effects of it too.

We continue to spread love and support throughout our community.

It was only right for me to create some content on veganism. But what is veganism? Does it have any benefits?💚

Thankfully, we are able to cater to all dietaries as best as we can at The Kitchen. This allows me and others to maintain my preferences. I think it's important to address that it's ok if you do eat meat or not - we all have our reasons and different circumstances.

I do think it's important to also talk about how being vegan isn't accessible everywhere. If you go outside of London, it's easier than it was five years ago, but there are limited options. This goes for other dietary requirements too. I also believe, being vegan or not, it is a culture thing and a cost thing. It is cheaper & easier for a large family to eat meat, get all of their nutrients and vitamins etc from meat than buying and researching replacements. It really is dependant on the circumstances.

There are however some benefits to having a vegan/plant-based diet:

💚 Health - there are studies to show that, red meat in particular, reducing your meat consumption reduces the risk of cancer and heart disease substantially
💚 Environment - the amount of water, land & food it takes to feed one cow has a substantial effect on our environment. It takes approximately 1,700 gallons of water to produce a single pound of beef—but just 39 gallons of water are needed to produce a pound of vegetables. (Source: Reader's Digest)
💚 Animals - obviously, it goes without saying that by going vegan you are choosing to not eat animals and their by-products therefore keeping them alive

Being vegan can be cost affective when you know how, it can dramatically reduce your carbon footprint & it can reduce the risk of several health conditions.

Does this make you want to go vegan or try Meatless Mondays, yes or no? Comment down below why⬇️

One of our amazing partners 💚 Thank you do much!

Each week they provide us with a great selection of food which helps us to continue to feed over 1000+ of our community! City Harvest enables us to provide a wide amount of nutritious food while also supplying some lovely treats.

It’s really good to work with companies who are not only tackling poverty within our local communities, but also food waste and the environmental crisis.

''City Harvest was founded in 2014 by a small group of people, who came together to address food waste and food poverty in the capital, forming London's first food redistribution charity''

So who is City Harvest? Just one of our amazing partners that’s who!💚

Without the help of City Harvest, we wouldn’t be able to feed 1000+ people weekly. Thank you so much for all your work!

CONTENT WARNING! Su***de and mental health

A recent report on the Irish Traveller Community was released by the BBC. This is a common theme across a lot of Traveller groups who face a lot of discrimination and end up being neglected by society.

We support all cultures and groups as the main aim is to feed the community and be as one!

We stand with the GRT Community💚

What is halal?

We have a wide range of dietaries in our community and a common one is halal 💚

Who can be halal? Anyone can be halal but it generally those of Muslim faith.

We tell each new volunteer the different dietaries and explain the cultural and religious importance of getting things like this just right. We make sure to check the labels as best as we can to ensure that everyone is eating exactly what they ask for.

People shouldn't have to sacrifices religious and dietary preferences because of poverty.
