It was almost time to lock the office when I received a call from a doctor friend who said he had a patient he wanted to send me. He expressed the severity, so I waited. Around 6 PM, the door opened. This wonderful lady was being led into my office. Her feet drug across the floor as they made their way into my office. Her complexion was a pasty and almost grey as the tears drenched her face.

I know this lady, I said to myself. Only three months before, I spoke at one of her events. She was an Ambassador of Good Will for a major entertainment company. What could have happened to place her in this condition? She was always encouraging others, building the confidence and self-esteem of others; now this.

As they helped her into the chair, I knelt beside her and told her that she was among friends. She asked if I could do some assessments and perhaps brain imaging, hoping we could find why her emotions had turned her inside out emotionally.

You see, our bodies were made to give us signals when something is going wrong, much like a warning light on the dashboard of our car. If our car warns us that our oil is low, we need to pay attention to it, or our car could break down. The same happens to our bodies. If we ignore the warning signs, our bodies can break down. Everyone needs to understand how to read their senses.

Stress, Anxiety, Depression is a symptom. The question is, where is the root of the challenge? Was it an event? A challenge? An illness or failure?

What could have happened to place her in this condition? She was always encouraging others, building their confidence and self-esteem; How could this be happening to her?

As they helped her into the chair, I knelt beside her and told her that she was among friends. She asked if I could do some assessments and perhaps imaging, hoping we could find why stress had turned her inside out emotionally.

You see, our bodies were made to give us signals when something is going wrong, much like a warning light on the dashboard of our car. If our car warns us that our oil is low, we need to pay attention to it, or our car could break down. The same happens to our bodies. Everyone needs to understand how to read and respond to their senses.

Stress, Anxiety, and Depression are symptoms. The question is, what is the root of the challenge? Was it an event? An accident? An illness or perhaps a failure?

The imaging showed behaviors that parallel a stress event. Because the symptoms had already started to manifest, I traced from the manifestation back. I started noting major markers within the limbic system, then the hypothalamus.

The story started to come together. Because my client displayed visible signs of anxiety, I assumed the amygdala and the sympathetic nervous system should also be considered.

A major key to managing these stress signals is to learn how the stress signals feel and to manage them before they have the opportunity to manifest.

Let's look at the warning lights and how my client could have reacted to stop this event from consuming her emotionally.

The first warning light was the
sympathetic nervous system warned her of impending danger.

The second warning light was
the amygdala prepared her for fight or flight with the release of stress hormone(s) cortisol and adrenaline.

The third warning light was
within the limbic system. Within the limbic system are two structures, the
cingulate gyrus and the para-hippocampal gyrus. These two structures affect mood, motivation, and judgment.

I explained how to manage
the senses when any of the 130 plus senses send her a warning sign. Yes, I did say 130 plus senses. So many people think we only have 5 senses.

Knowing how to interpret and manage your senses can make the difference in feeling anxiety or success.

I explained this to my client and created a protocol to help her return to her normal self. Needless to say, she is doing great. Today she has a new book and back to touring. LIFE is Good!

I will build on this next week.

After 11 months in and out of the hospital and physical rehabilitation, it is great to be back.

Thank you one and all for your prayers, thoughts, and cards.

In today's blog, Dr. D is taking an excerpt from his latest book titled 'The Universe Within.'

Within each of us, there is a wonderful place where we can get alone from the daily turbulence and stressors of life. A place where we can find peace and serenity, a place we can find answers and a place we can simply relax and regroup our thoughts.

Each week, I will continue to introduce you to this place of relaxation. This is not a magical, mystical, new age or religious experience. It is all about learning to manage your brain and your body. To become mentally fit just as we do to keep ourselves physically fit.

I use these techniques in the clinic, and in the studio. It doesn't matter if I am hiking, horseback, playing football or baseball or speaking at a convention; I use it daily to regroup and focus my thoughts, my daily priorities.

Go with me as we lay the path from where we are to where we want to be. We offer, Your very own protocol, the course "The Universe Within", and our Ebook you can purchase as well. Contact us at www.dennismanessphd.com. We look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy!

The noise surrounds you. The crowd, the barking dog, the lawn mower, the roar of the loud motorcycle, the daily stress from school or the office that compound the mind chatter. Just can't turn off all those thoughts that become the sounds in your mind which scream the loudest, often even drowning out the voices of those speaking to you and just a few feet away. This mental noise wreaks havoc on productivity and stress levels. There never seems to be time for you. Yet, even when life is on overload, there is a place that is foreign to most people where the serenity is abundant.

As you relax in the comfort of your own home or in one of the Certified Clinics associated with BIOA. You place the headphones on your ears and connect to this special place within.

As the sounds engulf you, you feel as if you are walking on the cloud, toward an entrance to this special place as you ready your key for entrance. You place your key in the door and walk in.

The door closes behind you as if to shut out the mind chatter, multiple competing thoughts, and disturbances from this new place you have found within your own mind. Many have described this experience as if they have stepped into another world . . . Welcome to the Universe Within.

While being true to yourself, listen . . . listen to your spouse, your children and all who are important in your life.

Their words of wisdom, encouragement, and correction will help you become the best you that you can be.
