Another community member request:
TRI-ANG child’s scooter C1960

Owner’s brief:
“Like the wheels to turn again, with new spokes and perhaps a new foot board if possible. Only a light clean-up of the frame to retain the original paintwork”.

Work carried out:
Carefully remove original rubber tyres and lightly clean to highlight white finish.
Strip down front wheel assembly. Free off seized hub spindle, clean and lubricate. Modify hub and rim to accept replacement spokes. Fit spokes and adjust tensions as required to true wheel. Refit tyre.
Strip down rear wheel assembly. Free off seized hub spindle, clean and lubricate. Modify hub and rim to accept replacement spokes. Fit spokes and adjust tensions as required to true wheel. Refit tyre.
Using original foot board for pattern and dimensions, fabricate replacement timber board and apply 2 coats of protective coating.
Carry out light clean of frame assembly and apply protective coating. Carry out repair to rear stand pivot point.
Rebuild scooter using original fasteners.

All donations gratefully received, it helps us continue our work.

What will happen in the Shed?
As well as woodworking, we plan to offer a wide range of activities when we have the funds to buy the kit needed. We want to act in an environmentally responsible way, so we will use recycled wood and off-cuts where possible, and we are gratefully welcoming donations of old tools and machinery for refurbishment and reuse.
Laptops and a secure internet connection will be available with help to learn or improve IT skills and for help with tasks that need the internet.

What can you do in the Shed?
Members can make or mend things for themselves and we will make things to sell, mend items and undertake projects for customers to help pay for the running costs of the Shed. Members can just come and enjoy good company; practical working is optional

What can you make in the Shed?
To help members decide what to make and understand how to make it, we will collect loads of plans (e.g. for bird nesting boxes for different species, unusual wine bottle racks, etc).

Is help available?
No prior knowledge or skill are required. Members can be taught how to use hand & power tools and machinery safely and skilfully.
What do you need to bring?
All tools & PPE will be provided, as well as materials and consumables (e.g. woodscrews, nails, glue, etc).

Tea & coffee will be available, but you will need to bring a packed lunch if you want to stay for the whole session.

How much does it cost?
We do not charge a fee to become a member, but we welcome donations and currently suggest £5/month if you can afford it. Doing projects and mending items for clients and selling what we make should “balance the books” and help pay the costs of running the Shed.

Helping the public

When we are open, we operate a “Repair Café” for furniture & domestic appliances. So, bring some in and have a drink while we see if we can safely & affordably mend things for you.

Do you want to have fun? Do something worthwhile by helping make and mend things? Meet new people and make new friends? Come and join us!

As well as making and mending things we drink tea & coffee, chat and have fun in an inclusive warm, safe and friendly setting. We do not charge a fee to become a member but we welcome donations and suggest £5/month. Members can make or mend things for themselves, we make things to sell, mend items and undertake projects for customers to help pay running costs for the shed. Members can just come and enjoy good company, practical working is optional but we have volunteers to help you learn new skills should you wish. Do feel free to bring a packed lunch if you come for the full session.

We are open 2nd & 4th Saturday of every month 10am-3pm, Unit 22d, Middlebrook Way, Cromer NR27 9JR (behind McDonalds & Travis Perkins next to Smiths Upholstery. Come along and meet some new friends - all welcome!😀

Success at last! Planning permission for the redevelopment of the derelict area of North Lodge Park was granted on 28th September, so we are on track to build our own Shed in 2024.

01/08/2023

Cromer Community Shed is delighted to announce that Mark Stuckey of BBC's Repair Shop is going to formally open us at midday on Saturday 26th August. All our friends are cordially invited to join us at About with Friends premises, Unit 22d, Middlebrook Way, Cromer. It is past Screwfix & the Ambulance Station.

12/04/2023

Cromer Community Shed are delighted to announce that, due to the hard work of the small team of members, the number of people joining in the fun-packed activities has grown and the queue of people with items for the Repair Cafe gets longer, so, from May, we will be opening on the 2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month.

Openings for the rest of 2023:- May 13th & 27th, June 10th & 24th, July 8th & 22nd, 12th & 26th, September 9th & 23rd, October 14th & 28th, November 11th & 25th, December 9th (not 23rd!)

So, if you've got something that has stopped working or is broken, bring it along to one of these sessions and we'll see if we can help you. Similarly, if you want to see how much fun we have, are just curious or want to join in, just come along, no appointment required and hot drinks & biscuits available. We are in one of the About with Friends premises on the Middlebrook Way industrial estate (beyond Travis Perkins & Screwfix), it is the one next to Smiths Reupholstery, beyond the Ambulance Station. We open at about 10am close at about 4pm - earlier if we aren't very busy.
