Today I packed up all of my jewellery supplies and shipped them off to someone who is just starting out on their creative journey. It was difficult to do after years of designing, learning and sourcing materials but it was also easy to do because of what I’ve learned and what my vision is for the future.

I’ve always strived for Siren & Stone to be an ethical and transparent business and for a long time, I thought the handmade and low-waste nature of our products was ticking those boxes. It has become clear to me however over time, that there is so much more to it than that and this is where the decision has come from to take the jewellery segment of Siren & Stone in a new direction.

I am on a mission to create pieces that are truly sustainable, with full transparency across all aspects of the supply chain. Our work in the future will aspire to set new standards in the industry. It will empower artisanal and small-scale miners and it will allow you to make conscious purchases in full faith that your products have been created in harmony with our planet and our people.

All pieces will still be made in Brisbane by me with the same love and care as always.

I’m excited to share more with you over the coming weeks. Thank you for your patience, support and understanding.

ANNOUNCEMENT // Why are things a little quiet on the S+S front? As both an individual and a business owner, I am committed to a path of learning with the ultimate goal of not just minimising our eco-footprint, but also influencing positive change. As a result, many of you know that I recently made the decision to retire all polymer components (despite their handmade and low-waste qualities) effective immediately. Following this, I have completed a deep dive on every product we use in the production of Siren & Stones collection, particularly our jewellery. Whilst I source our materials locally and make each unique item by hand, the impact of gold mining on the planet, along with the largely unethical treatment of workers is something that I feel cannot be ignored. In the spirit of striving to operate a zero-waste studio, our remaining styles will be available until our inventory of raw materials has been used. After this time, we will be temporarily pausing our jewellery production until a long-term solution has been implemented in the studio (something I am excited to say is well and truly in the works!). I apologise for any inconvenience to our beautiful customers but as a business owner, I would rather do things the right way, or not at all and that means that we cannot in good conscience advocate for change yet be selective about the things allow to ‘pass’. On that note, I am also hard at work on Siren & Stones capsule collection. Each garment in incredibly considered and crafted ethically from luxurious, natural fibres. I am excited to share more with you soon! Jess x

Brand Transparency: Why We Will No Longer Be Using Polymer Clay In Our Designs 05/04/2021

This is a decision I have sat with for some time but after much research and consideration, Siren + Stone will no longer be incorporating Polymer Clay in our designs.

Sustainability and environmental impact has always been at the forefront of this brand and are something that I am personally and professionally dedicated to.

As many of you know, my design process has been largely focused on being able to create versatile and long-lasting pieces that can be a part of your wardrobe for years to come.

Although Polymer Clay is a durable medium that allows me to achieve this goal and to create without waste, ultimately it is a Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) based product that is significantly detrimental to the environment.

Siren + Stone has always been committed to being a transparent brand and as I am on this journey, I am continuously striving to learn and grow my knowledge to ensure we are doing the best we can for you, and the planet.

There is no denying that PVC is the most environmentally damaging plastic. Unlike HDPE or PET, it is typically not recycled for consumer use due to its toxicity and is also gradually being removed from the consumer market which will make it even harder to filter through the recycling stream going forward.

Although all major clay companies are required to undergo testing to certify their clay is made from non-toxic materials that are suitable for handling, knowing this information I cannot in good conscience continue to incorporate it into our designs.

I would like to highlight that this is a personal decision I have made for the brand. There are many local artists out there creating beautiful things with Polymer Clay whose values are around the durability and low-waste qualities of this medium.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this decision but look forward to sharing my new collection with you soon.

5 Self Care Ideas For Your Long Weekend 03/04/2021

5 Self Care Ideas For Your Long Weekend One of the highlights of the Easter long weekend for me is having a little extra time up my sleeve to squeeze in some self care. Self care looks different to everyone, but for me it's essentially a time I can set aside for myself, to be present, to relax and to do something that really enriches my w...

One of the best ways to build a sustainable wardrobe is to have high quality staples. These will serve as a functional foundation on which you can build a beautiful collection. Unique pieces from thrift stores or clothes swaps can really personalise your style and remember, if you have to shop fast, make it last; focus on fabric composition and try to buy garments that complement or elevate your existing collection. And don’t forget, the end is just as important as the beginning. Donate, up-cycle or compost your clothes when you no longer have use for them. Fashion doesn’t have to cost the Earth ♻️🌏

STORY SALE HAPPENING NOW! DM ‘sold’ to purchase. Mostly one of a kind pieces from our recent pop-up xx

Our beautiful hair accessories are made from reclaimed, 100% organic h**p.

H**p is a natural, plant-based fibre, which means the fabric doesn’t contain or shed microplastics. H**p, like other natural fibres such as linen also becomes softer over time and is a highly durable fabric ensuring you get maximum wear from your accessories.

These beauties are also 100% plastic free so you can shop consciously knowing at the end of their life cycle they can return directly back to the Earth.

Thanks for having me, Melbourne! It was amazing after all of the restrictions and lockdowns to finally catch up with my lovely pattern maker and production manager for a fitting of some completed samples. Very blessed to have a team in Australia that are all in on the mission of sustainability and ethical fashion. What a journey 🥰

Thanks to everyone who came down to the this morning. It was so nice to see some familiar faces and as always I’m so blown away by the amount of talent in our little community. If you saw something you liked today but didn’t get the chance to double back, I’ll be uploading a handful of pieces to the online store soon! 🌸🍃✨

The ‘Arielle’ drops looking right at home along the sea shore 🐚✨

11/02/2021

I thought it was about time I showed my face again whilst also sharing some thoughts and giving you a sneak peek at things to come.

The beautiful earrings I’m wearing will be part of our next drop. It’s a big call, but they have to be my favourite earrings I’ve ever owned. I literally only take them off to sleep 😅✨

Our next drop will be on a pre-sale basis, and thereafter made-to-order. Occasionally I will upload stock from markets to the ready-to-wear section but for the most part, your beautiful pieces will be made just for you!

The little ensemble I’m wearing I actually made last weekend and I’m super happy with how it turned out. I believe it’s super important to remember the importance of making just for fun, without the pressure of quality or and end result. Personally I find that’s when I am most creative.

I think my next project will be to sew a variation of this in linen. How would you feel about seeing some little handmade sets in the online store?

Hope you’re having a beautiful week.

Jess xx 💫
