We strongly encourage people to adopt pets, including those who may be older or who may have health issues. It is so rewarding giving them a home. We did not set out to adopt an 11 year old mostly blind dog but when we met SweetPea (named Tiny at that time), we fell in love. We have loved all the dogs we have adopted over the years, but SweetPea is definitely special. She was rescued from a hoarding situation and we just happened upon her at an adoption event that was held at a local mall. She was there with a wonderful Chihuahua rescue group-CRT "Chihuahua Rescue and Transport of the Southeast". https://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/southeast Her foster parents were amazing and we knew they were taking good care of her. We left that day saying "She is so sweet, but we just don't know about adopting a special needs older dog". However, we could not stop thinking about her and started calling her SweetPea. We decided that if we had given her a new name that was the sign we needed that she should come home with us. We just had the mindset that we would give her the best home we could for however long we had her in our lives. And we are so glad we did! She is now 14 and completely blind and just full of love. We hope you all enjoy her pictures and encourage you to consider adopting as well. :)
