When it comes to being eco, just start somewhere 💚
You may never feel truly ready to completely vegan. You may never feel truly ready to go completely zero waste. You may never feel truly ready to stop driving your car or flying on aeroplanes.
But, don't discount the power of starting somewhere - anywhere. Just start by reducing your meat, dairy and egg intake. Just start by reducing your use of single-use plastic. Just start by taking public transport to work. Start before you're ready.
By making these little changes, we strongly believe that you will naurally progress to making bigger changes. By making small changes, we can all collectively change the world 🌍

Naked fruit and vegetables!🤭

Who goes to the supermarket, refuses to use the plastic bags that are draped all over the shop floor so you end up placing your fruit and vegetables loosely in your basket before transferring them into your reusable bag only to fill your reusable bag with vegie bits. Don't act like you haven't done it.😜

I have a solution, these plastic butt kicking reusable mesh bags. Check them out, they are light weight, come in a pack of 4 and can be thrown in the wash after use. All clean and ready for your next round of shopping fun. ♻️

Did you know?

I was reading an article recently on every day deodorants and well needless to say I was shocked by the number of environment killing chemicals they found in them. Even more alarming to me was the thought of what you put on your skin has to have an impact on your own health, right?!

In my quest to rid my life of toxic products I have been researching all weekend (yes I know what you are thinking, surely you have a life) and I do, it is focused on making better choices so as I educate myself I want to do the same for you. Are you with me?

Check out my latest article on the reasons why deodorants are s**t for the environment and not so great for us either.

If you are already boss'n it and using a chem free deodorant, comment below - what made you change?

This is so true! We all have the power to make a change. Remember.... small changes amount to monumental movements! 💚 with

👉🏽While corporate responsibility needs to be pushed WAY harder, we DO have power as individuals in how we consume!🙌🏽

Just a reminder for today - if you need something and a small business you love is having a sale that lets you afford that item, go for it! We should always be supporting our local and small businesses💕

BUT, if you don’t actually need something, and if you’re finding yourself getting tempted by low deals and influenced by urgency rhetoric, stop and ask yourself:

▫️Do I need this?
▫️How many times will I wear/use this?
▫️Do I already have something similar?
▫️How was it made/who made it?
▫️Would I still want this item if it was full price (thanks for this one!)

Have you succeeded in curbing your mindless spending this year and only buying what you need? 🛍

What about in supporting small businesses over giants like Amazon and Wal Mart?📦

Would love to hear the changes you’re making and how you’ve brought consciousness into your consuming this year ☺️

78 million metric tons of plastic packaging is produced globally each year, with only 14% being recycled. Lightweight and floatable, plastic that escapes collection flows into our oceans—9 million tons annually.

One of many contributors is the plastic wrap we use in your kitchens. What a waste of money! Let's think about this, we use it once and toss it in the bin, throwing our money away and harming our beautiful environment in the process. We have a solution!!

These wraps are perfect for your sandwiches and bowls filled with leftovers. They make a great pouch for herbs and snacks on the go and ideal for the lunch box. The perfect all rounder in the kitchen.

Thanks to ECO. Modern Essentials and their handy 'about essential oils' page I'm able to share what is aromatherapy, what are essential oils, how they work and how to use them. More detail on the below information can be found on their website.

Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic plants in the form of essential oils and waters to help support and enhance health both physically and emotionally. Essential oils are extracted from plants and are a very concentrated form of the healing aromatic compounds either from the plant or produced during the extraction process.

Essential oils can be absorbed into the body through the skin and nose. When essential oils are absorbed through the skin they enter into the blood stream that carries the healing molecules throughout the body. Heat, water and covering the treated area increase the level of absorption so application methods like baths and compresses are a great way to increase essential oil absorption into the body.

How to use essential oils:
- Inhalation
- Steam inhalation
- Compress
- Massage
- Bath
- Hand or Foot bath

To read more about the benefits and how to use essential oils head over to Eco. Modern Essentials website.

For many of us, the gradual easing of lockdown brings longed-for opportunities to see friends, play sports, resume contact with friends and family in ‘real space’ or get back to work that we value. It has been a tough time for many throughout Covid – especially those with small businesses who have been impacted heavily.

Small business employes 44 per cent of Australia’s workforce and contributes just over a third of the nation’s GDP, resulting in a lot of people all around us currently under enormous financial strain as a result of the lockdown.

How can we help? Shop Local!

When you shop local, you're making a personal investment in your neighborhood and community. In fact, for every $100 spent when you shop local, roughly $68 to $73 of it returns to local activity. Money is kept in the community because locally-owned businesses often purchase from other local businesses, service providers, and farms!

Remember, the choice is ours. Let’s work together to make a difference to those around us who need our help. Let’s shop local Australia!

Straws! So many options! Plastic, stainless steel, glass, paper, bamboo.. here are some facts I bet you didn't know!

We draw a comparison of the carbon dioxide emissions & embedded energy that goes into making them.

Comparing the amount of energy and C02 that goes into making a plastic straw, you will need to use your reusable straws the following number of times to make up for both embedded energy and carbon dioxide used to make them:

🍃 A stainless steel straw must be reused 102 times
🍃 A glass straw must be reused 45 times, and the
🍃 A bamboo straw must be reused 32 times

As you can see it is necessary to reuse your environmentally friendly straws to make up for the energy that goes into producing them.

It is however incredibly important that we choose a plastic alternative with an estimated 130,000 tonnes of plastic straws finding their way into our waterways and into the ocean in Australia alone.

Plastic may be convenient (and low cost) but it is contributing to the irreversible damage we are doing to our amazing planet.

I'm curious, WHICH STRAW WOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Do you know what you are washing your skin with??? REALLY.

Some soaps can contain chemicals such as sodium hydroxide and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate. It is what helps the soap to lather or clean or skin but what you may not know is the harmful environmental impacts of both compounds?

It has been found that a high concentration of sodium hydroxide in water will result in toxic effects for aquatic organisms e.g. fish.
Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate while not always used across all soap products but has been found in some, forms part of the typical anionic surfactant pollutant substances group. Anionic surfactants are easily concentrated in surface of waters, producing foam and emulsification. They also block the exchange of oxygen in the water, deteriorate seawater quality and degrade marine ecosystems.

Not to mention we wear this on our skin, we sweat, we absorb what we put on our skin.

Eeeek after researching this I have further justified to myself why using a chemical free soap is the only way forward and my contribution to creating sustainable change for good.

STOP!!!!!!!!!

Think about this for a second, a typical razor is designed to be used a few times and thrown out even if you are just replacing the head of the razor... you guessed it, it is still covered in plastic
2,000,000,000, that is the number of razors and refill blades that are tossed out every year which makes me think, are plastic razors the new plastic straws?

When we think plastic, we think straws and bags, but have you ever stopped to think about the plastic razor you have sitting in your shower?

Did you know that 80% of plastic bottles end up in landfills? Every bottle leak harmful chemicals into our environment. 😪

Around the world 1,000,000 plastic bottles are purchased every minute, while up to 5 trillion single-use plastic bags are used worldwide every year. This must stop; we are drowning our planet in plastic.

We may only be a little fish in a big ocean, but we can make a difference!
