Just a note that social skills don't always have to be practiced indoors with a workbook. There are many other ways to get kids working on social skills.
One tip I'd give is to be purposeful about teaching and practicing social skills. For example, if you are gardening to work on patience and empathy, talk about it! Talk about how gardening can be a slow activity. You have to take care of plants, give them what they need, and wait to see them grow. Talk about how good it feels to take care of something else and how wonderful it can be when you start to see those seeds sprout!
