Spotlight on: Endeavour Fund

Today we are taking a look back at the amazing work done by the , an organisation created by The Duke of Sussex to support the Armed Forces community. HRH was motivated by the ambitions of wounded, injured and sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans across the UK, who wanted to use sport and adventurous activity as part of their recovery. And what they choose to take on is extraordinary!

These men and women break global records and set goals for those around the world - non-disabled and disabled alike, including:
The first amputee to cross Greenland icecap unsupported, the first triple amputee to qualify as a rescue diver, the fastest unsupported rowing time across the Atlantic, and so many more.

The endeavours they take on are inspirational, but also have a tremendous impact on their physical, emotional and social recovery, as well as a lasting effect on the family and community around them.

Since launching in 2012, the Endeavour Fund has supported nearly 6,000 WIS in sport and adventure challenges.

As The Duke said, “The magic of the Endeavour Fund is that it enables those who had life changing injuries in their prime, many of whom felt defeated, to use the power of sport to find a new purpose. The renewed self-belief we see in everyone who participates, and how this transforms their lives and the lives of those around them is overwhelming. Beyond that, each man or woman who participates uses their endeavour as an opportunity to raise funds for another serviceman or woman who needs the same support they once did. It’s a powerful and meaningful process that I am so proud to be a part of.”

In 2019 alone, 17 grants were submitted benefitting nearly a thousand WIS and over 200 family and friends. 198 qualifications were gained and more than 80 are back in the workforce feeling fulfilled and with a renewed sense of purpose.

The Countess of Wessex, as Patron of the Scar Free Foundation, hosted an afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday to mark the Foundation’s 20th anniversary.

The Countess met six-year-old Elizabeth and her parents Liam and Sinead. Elizabeth is being supported by the charity and her parents are raising awareness of life with scarring and burns.

The Scar Free Foundation helps to advance medical research in the areas of wound healing, burns and cleft lips.

Her Royal Highness has been Patron of The Scar Free World since 2002, and last November opened the Foundation’s Centre for Conflict Wound Research at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

The Countess also hosted a Women in Business Christmas reception this week. The Committee encourages the support of the work of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

The Award has helped millions of 14-25 year olds over the past two generations.

Her Royal Highness met with young people who have been involved with the award and thanked current supporters of The Committee.

"In the three years of relentless media bullying of Meghan I have not seen anything from William expressing support, unlike the instances Harry came to Kate’s defense on camera when the media targeted her." - Jacqueline

On this day in 2017, Prince Harry announced his engagement to actress and activist, Meghan Markle. It had been just over 7 years since Harry’s brother Prince William announced his engagement to Catherine Middleton and the world was absolutely ready for another big Royal Wedding.
Meghan and Prince Harry had met in the summer of 2016 and embarked on a whirlwind cross-continental long-distance romance as both kept up full work schedules (Royal engagements and causes in London and around the world for Harry, and shooting SUITS in Toronto and running The Tig Lifestyle Blog for Meghan) but in late 2017, as Meghan’s projects started to wind down, the engagement seemed imminent. FINALLY, less than a week after Thanksgiving, the announcement was made and pictures (and video) of an ecstatic Meghan & Harry were beamed around the world!

Harry and Meghan chose to announce their engagement with a photocall in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace. The garden has special meaning to Prince Harry as it was one of Princess Diana’s favorite spots at Kensington Palace and earlier in 2017, the garden was planted with an array of all-white blooms marking 20 years since her passing. After the photo call, the couple did their engagement interview in Kensington Palace.

By contrast, William & Kate’s engagement announcement photo call was held inside Buckingham Palace - it may surprise you to know that their choosing an indoor location was unusual - the previous generations’ engagement announcement photo calls were all held outdoors. Swipe for pics of all the Queen’s children and grandchildren’s engagements as well as the date of the announcements!
Whose engagement announcement portrait is your favorite? Do you remember where you were when you heard about H&M’s engagement?

On December 21st 2018, our Duke and Duchess showed their continuous support for the survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire by visiting the Hubb Community Kitchen with the singer, Adele. We always knew about the Sussexes and Adele’s visit back in late December 2018 but there was never a picture until now.❤️
Thanks to 📸💗😍
