Congratulations to our newly installed Master of The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales, Agnes Xavier-Phillips JP DL. She took office together with Senior Warden Henry Gilbert and Junior Warden Jane Croad during our Installation Court prior to our Installation Dinner on Saturday 6 April. The Dinner was held at the Hilton Cardiff in the City Centre overlooking Cardiff Castle, one of Wales’ leading heritage attractions.

It was a unique and auspicious occasion full of pomp and ceremony with fabulous entertainment organised by the Master’s Consort Nigel Phillips. The dinner was proceeded by a special congratulatory video message from the Rt. Honourable Lord Mayor of the City of London, Michael Mainelli.

The reply for the guests was given by Dame Fiona Woolf CBE DBE DL Master of the Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers, who proposed the toast to the Company.

We were joined by many of the Master’s friends and colleagues from The City of London Livery Companies, the Lieutenancy, Judiciary, Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, law firms Eversheds - Sutherland, Blake Morgan and a plethora of THE HIGH SHERIFFS' ASSOCIATION OF ENGLAND & WALES.

The Master had arranged that each guest should receive a special gift in the form of a miniature bottle of Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky provided courtesy of the CEO of Penderyn Whisky, Stephen Davies, a Liveryman of the Company.

Despite a change in venue at short notice the Master successfully mitigated the problem and found an alternative venue ably assisted by the Clerk Christopher Dale and Assistant Clerk Angela Parry MBE.

All in all, this was truly an evening to remember for the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales.

The Senior Warden Agnes Xavier-Phillips JP DL and her husband Nigel were guests of Liveryman HHJ Nicholas Cooke KC at the Selection Court Dinner of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers.

The dinner was held at Girdlers Hall and pre-dinner drinks enjoyed in its picturesque garden with its impressive backdrop of skyscrapers. Over dinner, those present were able to enjoy the sight of the Girdlers’ greatest treasure, the beautiful Bell Carpet, rescued from the Great Fire hanging on the wall, in excellent condition. The evening was further enhanced by the many ladies who carried fans.

The international British artist, Paul Benney was the principal guest who entertained and educated us with a self-deprecating talk about his career as a painter and how that career has now taken him to the heady heights of being commissioned to paint an official portrait of Queen Camilla and design the fan to be presented to Her Royal Highness,

The excellent food and wine were followed by the Company’s traditional ceremonies of the Rose Bowl and the Loving Cup, both back after Covid. The splendid evening ended with the Stirrup Cup which gave an opportunity for a last drink and more socialising.
