Join us tonight at 7pm EST for our biggest premiere yet as we explore the 1923 Musical, Elsie.
After the Gershwin's A Dangerous Maid failed to make it to Broadway in 1921, producer Edgar MacGregor retitled the work Elsie and brought in the husband and wife composing duo Monte Carlo and Alma Sanders to rework the score. Eventually, MacGregor made the bold and progressive decision to bring in black composing duo Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake to supply the other half of the score. Sissle and Blake were coming off the recent smash hit of Shuffle Along.
In this video you will hear all of the available music from Elsie. We have found a staggering 17 songs, almost all of which have never been recorded before. This video is also, as far as we know, the first public performance of Elsie since its premiere 97 years ago.

This week, we travel back to 1921 to explore A Dangerous Maid, the first book musical that George Gershwin wrote alongside his brother Ira Gershwin.
The show toured several stops with its sights set on the Great White Way, but closed suddenly in Pittsburgh, never making it to Broadway. In this video, we will present seven of the ten songs from the show! This is the first chance you can hear them all in one place for the first time in nearly 100 years.
See you tonight at 7pm EST!

"Fun fact: My first day on stage was at one day old as I was the only baby in the hospital who had a full head of hair after birth and was used as the child demonstration for new moms to learn to shampoo their baby’s hair! This photo was taken before a dance recital— over 10 years of tap, jazz, ballet, and hip hop. I hope Where The Good Songs Go can bring some much needed entertainment to people during these unprecedented times." - Lauren Nash Silberstein

It's Thursday which means...it's time for another Where the Good Songs Go premiere!
Join us tonight at 7pm EST as we travel to the land of yesterday and explore some of Sigmund Romberg and Alex Ge**er's contributions to Poor Little Ritz Girl's Broadway score!
See you tonight for this 20 minute treat!
Poor Little Ritz Girl (Romberg/Ge**er Version) Poor Little Ritz Girl (1920) is the second virtual production by Where The Good Songs Go, a new web series. Poor Little Ritz Girl was Rodgers and Hart's firs...
Along with Sigmund Romberg, Alex Ge**er was brought in to supply the new material for Poor Little Ritz Girl.
Ge**er was not as well known as Romberg, so let's get to know him together. And be sure to hear his contributions come to life once again in tomorrow's video!
"My parents often said that I could sing before I could talk! They worked in theater as a hobby, and I grew up seeing their shows as well as countless national tours, local productions, and movie musicals.
I was known to perform a costume change or gather props at a moment’s notice, and the living room hearth was quickly claimed as a stage for my brother and I. I would sing to anyone who would listen, for as long as they would listen! Most of my shows would end in an old-Hollywood fireworks scene, which mostly consisted with me throwing blankets into the air until bedtime.
Even in my “about the author” bio in the picture book I wrote in the third grade, I have always said I wanted to be a singer. I feel so blessed that after many years of practicing, hundreds of shows, and three music degrees my dream is a reality. The costumes are a few sizes bigger, the props a bit more fragile, and the blanket fireworks replaced with grids of stage lights, but the stardust in this kiddo’s eyes still shines bright today!" -Spencer Reese
See Spencer's wonderful performance as Billy Pembroke in our latest release, Rodgers and Hart's Poor Little Ritz Girl here: https://youtu.be/82aHrOFIyvA
And join us this Thursday at 7pm to hear Spencer's beautiful renditions of two of the new songs that Sigmund Romberg supplied for Poor Little Ritz Girl.
As explained in our previous release, between the Boston tryout and the Broadway opening for Poor Little Ritz Girl, Half of Rodgers and Hart's score was tossed and and replaced with music and lyrics by Sigmund Romberg and Alex Ge**er.
This Thursday, you will get a chance to hear Romberg and Ge**er's contributions to the score! But first, let's learn more about the man behind the music, Sigmund Romberg.
"My earliest memories are singing “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” and skipping around my grandparents house. With my grandma I’d watch hours of Shirley Temple, The King and I, Singing in the Rain, West Side Story, singing along by heart.
I was a very shy kid growing up, but singing was the one thing that got me out of my shell. Classic music theatre to me was a way to find my voice and creativity.
It has the ability to let us play, be brave, and dream!" - Sophie Thompson
Watch Sophie's hilarious cameo as Aunt Jane as well as her ensemble contributions to our latest release, Poor Little Ritz Girl. Catch it here: https://youtu.be/82aHrOFIyvA
