Nicks Knits
Learning a new art form
That heart stopping moment…
Very much a work in progress, this was a bit of a test, but I rather like it, a bit folksy and bit MCM. I’m going to do new carvings of the birds - watch this space…
I’ve been itching to try my hand at monstera Lino print, so here it is…
When new meets old, still a work in progress
A test print for these…
This is my ‘Starry Night’
The print is actually made from three separate Lino sections (because why make things easy 😂)
That’s better…
Playing around with colour, as I’m very much in the experimental stage, I’m going to try oil based inks next to see if it gives better ‘flatter’ quality of print.
On hindsight not the most interesting picture I could have taken of this latest bit of arty art work, but it does the job for now. Quite proud really as it the most detailed I’ve managed so far - it’s the little steps that matter ( I keep saying to myself 😂)
This little chap is a work in progress, it needs a little more re-carving to make some if the line a little bolder for the printing process to work - stay tuned…
Here’s an updated version of this print, I’m calling it ‘Autumn Trees’
Was aiming for a Mid Century feeling here
What do you think ?
My new friend, a lino printing press. I now feel like an expert 😂😂😂
I’ve wanted to make a two colour picture for a while now, but I was holding off until, well… I knew how to do it, quite frankly.
I must admit I was happily surprised how well it came out and I do love the shade of yellow. Originally I was going to go with pale yellow but really happy with this bright yellow.
All framed up.
Those of you who like playing spot the difference may notice an addition on the previous post, when I looked at this version of the print I felt I needed to add a little more… can you spot it?
Still a work in progress… I wanted a mid century vibe, you’ll see that pop up sometimes in my work.
The green version will be a sage green.
I’ve been quiet around these parts, but I’ve been working quietly in the background practicing and practicing and practicing a bit more.
I’ll be popping a few photos of my recent endeavours over the next few days, let me know what you think ?
It’s time for a change…
Ok…so… long story long…
Since the start of this year I’ve been very lucky and started a new full time job, back to the role I love (Learning and Development - in case you were wondering) and it’s been amazing 🤩. But it’s a busy and demanding role, as part of that role I talk about well-being, about how to develop well-being , what that looks like and the benefits. But the irony is that I find I do none of what I guide others to do.
With my day job and managing Nick’s Knits there is never time to stop and enjoy the here and now.
Also, with the economy as it is, we have all found ourselves watching the pennies. So I’ve taken the very tough decision to close down my website- it’s costing me so much to keep it open and the costs of package etc.
But it is also time for a bigger change…
I’ve been crocheting for a number of years and making items for Nick’s Knits and I find myself itching to try something new. Because, after a while, the creativity stops and it becomes a process and it’s the creativity I love the most.
So I have taken another tough decision to close down Nick’s Knits as a whole - but don’t worry you’ll still find me selling Nick’s Knits for a while at Ramsgate craft markets and also the lovely Westgate Galleria.
What are going to do then, I hear you ask (or not 😂)
Well…time for a big change - I still want to be creative but challenge myself to learn a whole new art form. Not to take myself too seriously.
I’m going to teach myself how to lino and block print pieces of art - I’m very much inspired by folk art and the countryside, flora and fauna, black and white, I’ve got a head bursting full of ideas - so let’s see how it goes.
Here’s the thing… I know a lot of you follow me for my crocheting and you may want to unfollow me as I do something completely different and that’s ok. But for those of you who want to stick around and see how I get on, please join me as I learn, experiment, get things wrong and sometimes, maybe sometimes create a piece of art that’s actually not too bad.
Welcome to arty art face.
I do like a close up…
They’re called Craspedia Globosa ( I can’t even pronounce it tbh 😂)
A long time very overdue, new pieces have arrived at the wonderful
Here I am, all ready and set up.
It’s a glorious day here in beautiful Ramsgate. If you’re in the area pop down and see us.
I’m often asked, which is my favourite, out of the cacti I make, it’s a bit like asking which is your favourite child. But I must admit these new little cacti might just be my favs ( at the moment - until I make my next new idea 😂)
They will be making their first public appearance at market on the 24th June.
I’ll be bringing along all my brand new handmade pieces.

Getting ready and prepped for my first market of the year.
What better place to be than at market on the 24th June.
I’ll be bringing along all my brand new handmade pieces.

I’ve been wanting to use this yarn for a while now and finally got round to it. I’m loving all the different colours and shades, not sure the photo shows everything at its best.
A little close up of my new favs.

I know… I’ve been quiet recently, but I’ve been beavering away in the back ground.

My newest hand crocheted group of cacti.
But the question of the day is… can you count how many different yarns I’ve used to make this group?

Today’s the day. We look forward to seeing you later 😀
