Jegede Condoles With Makinde on Loss of Mother

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has described the death of Madam Abigail Makinde, mother of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, as a great loss for both the people of Ondo and Oyo States.

Jegede in a press statement to condole with the Oyo State governor, said, "Much as it is painful losing a cherished mother, the import of Mama's exit is felt also by both the people of Oyo State where you are governor, and by the people of Ondo State, with whom she was ancestrally linked."

Jegede noted that the respectable conducts of Governor Makinde and his siblings were proofs that the late Madam Makinde was a woman of virtue, who brought up all her children well, to the benefit of the society.

"I can only beseech you to take heart and be grateful to God that Mama lived a life worthy of emulation by generations of women and men alike.

"The best way to immortalise her is for those she left behind to sustain her legacies of unblemished motherhood, immutable honesty, and enterprising spirit."

Jegede, in commiserating with the people and government of Oyo State "on the painful loss of Mama Makinde", also enjoined the people of the state to continue to support the administration of Governor Makinde in its determined efforts to provide them the dividends of democracy.

"We in the PDP family are proud of your untiring efforts to deliver on your electoral promises through various physical achievements in less than two years of becoming governor.

"We are thus prodding the good people of Oyo State to continue with the mass support they are currently giving your administration," he commended.

APC THUGS ATTACKED PDP CONVOY AGAIN IN OWO

September 29, 2020

Press Statement

The convoy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was today attacked in many places at Owo Local Government by heavily armed APC political thugs.

A PDP member was shot today during our campaign rally in Owo town by the APC thugs. The victim who is still lying unconscious is now being rushed to the hospital.

Besides, some of our campaign vehicles were damaged, as was witnessed in Oba-Akoko community recently.

Earlier in the day, the same APC armed hoodlums blocked the entry point to Ipele community, Jegede’s maternal home, and attempted to turn back the campaign team.

This spate of attacks on our members by the ruling party in the state is threatening the peace of the state, and is apparently intended to cause violence ahead of the October 10 governorship election.

We are calling on the Inspector-General of Police, the human rights community, and other international bodies to come to our rescue in Ondo State.

We want a free and fair election, but the party in power does not.

Ondo: PDP Campaign Cautions INEC On Use of Zpad

September 25, 2020

Press Statement

The PDP National Campaign Council for Ondo Governorship election cautions the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to compromise the credibility of the coming October 10, 2020 Ondo Governorship election with the contemplation of using the unreliable Zpad technology in voter accreditation process.

Our campaign recalls that the Zpad technology had failed during a test-run deployment for voter accreditation in Nasarawa bye-election; a situation that informed its rejection by INEC for voter accreditation in the September 19 Edo state governorship election, where it was only used to assist in direct uploading of results to INEC’s virtual portal.

We therefore urge INEC to limit the Zpad technology to the purpose for which it has helped the commission to attain integrity as witnessed in the Edo governorship election.

Our campaign also charges INEC to discountenance the blackmail by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the replacement of the over 5000 card readers that were burnt by APC agents to frustrate the conduct of a credible governorship election in Ondo state.

We also call on INEC to note that the APC is bent on its plots to frustrate the commission’s efforts following clear indications that there is no way its candidate, the failed Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, can win in a free, fair and credible election.

The PDP campaign, standing with the people of Ondo state, demands that the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, personally oversights the processes of recruitment of state polling officers.

Our demand is predicated on information available to us that INEC officials detailed to handle the process are about being compromised by the APC to engage their members as INEC adhoc staff with a view to using them to rig the election.

For us in the PDP campaign, the irreducible minimum standard of the integrity for the Ondo election is to adapt the achievement attained by the commission in the September 19 Edo state governorship election.

We want to inform INEC and all stakeholders that we will follow every process in the Ondo election to ensure that the Ondo people are not robbed of their legitimate votes at any level of the electoral process

Moreover, our campaign restates our party’s demand that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, his self-confessed militant and thug, Issac kekemeke and other APC agents of violence should be invited by INEC and security agencies and cautioned to desist from acts of violence like the one recently perpetrated by them in Oba-Akoko, where our candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, was almost assassinated, but for the intervention of the people.

It is instructive to note that after spending four years in a self-serving administration, Governor Akeredolu has nothing to offer the people of Ondo state except a campaign of violence and divisive tendencies.

Governor Akeredolu, in his self-serving administration cannot point to any developmental project that he has contributed to Ondo outside violence, entrenchment of corruption and enrichment of his cronies, relations and their cohorts with resources meant for the wellbeing of the people of Ondo.

The PDP campaign therefore appreciates the overwhelming support accorded to our candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, across the length and breadth of Ondo state which signposts the end of the misrule of Governor Akeredolu and the APC in the state.

USA Congratulates Edo ; Urges improved Ondo election.

September 25, 2020

Wole Akingbasote – California, USA

The government of the United States of America, through its Embassy in Abuja released an official statement to appreciate the outcome of the just concluded Edo State governorship election, expressed concerns about some electoral malpractices and violence including vote-buying.

The statement also touched on the forthcoming election in Ondo State scheduled for October 10,2020 and urged improvements on National Electoral Commission (INEC) performance in Ondo State gubernatorial election electoral process that was rated as free and fair in Edo State, as stated below.

Congratulations to the people of Edo State on a credible and peaceful governorship election. We thank the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigerian security services on the positive role they played in the election and commend their work in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy. We recognize the critical role that Governor Godwin Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu played in promoting peace. We also thank our civil society partners for their invaluable work in upholding democracy and accountability in this election.

The United States remains concerned with reports of some violence that did emerge during the election, and by reports of vote-buying and intimidation of both voters and civil society domestic observers. We will continue to encourage all stakeholders, including INEC, political parties, and the security services, to improve the electoral process in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election. As a democratic partner of Nigeria, the United States remains committed to working together to achieve our mutual goals of peace and prosperity for the citizens of both our countries.
