When I joined Etsy in 2008, these little mini antlers were among my first products. I was fresh out of the apparel design program at Seattle Central Community College, and learning my soon-to-be craft- these pieces were originally individually sculpted to order in polymer clay (before I learned how to make molds or cast in resin). Flash forward to 2022- my work has changed, it's gotten more complex, more skilled, more thoughtful. What every artist works towards with every individual piece that we create: a steady pace in honing our skill. Etsy has changed a lot too, but unfortunately their recent steady pace has been focused on improving the market place for shareholders rather than sellers. For instance, recently implementing no-opt-out advertising campaigns that take 12%-15% of each sale, huge wait times for technical support, unreliable analytics, and now, today, an additional 30% increase in fees which will go towards more advertising focusing on how "cute" they are, & how they're enabling all us little folks to follow our dreams. Enough is enough. If you've visited my shop today you'll notice it's on vacation mode, and that's because I'm currently participating in the . , if you want to be viewed as a homespun utopia enabling people to follow their dreams, it's time to give the artists and craftspeople who make your platform what it is a seat at the table. With record corporate profits in the last 2 years (leading to Etsy’s ability to purchase their competitors in cash), we've literally earned it. 💰 📸 Rose Finden
