Congratulations to James Dyson Award Winner and RMIT Industrial Design Graduate Alexander Burton who took out the top 2023 National prize with his project Rapid Electric Vehicle Retrofit (REVR).
 
REVER is an innovative, new method for converting internal combustion engine vehicles into hybrid electric ones, that offers significant cost and time saving.
 
“I had wanted to convert my own car to electric, but I didn’t really have the funds or just any idea how to go about it,” said Burton.
 
“Doing it myself seemed inevitable so I took the opportunity to see how I could do it differently, particularly cheaply and quickly.”
 
RMIT Students rounded out a podium sweep with recent Industrial and Product Design graduate Keagan Howell and Mechanical Engineering (Honours) student Dawei Cao both awarded as national runners-up.
 
Howell’s entry ‘Linko’ revolutionises masonry construction, using recycled plastic inserts to interconnect bricks and construct walls, while Cao’s submission ‘LELENÜT’ introduced a sustainable system for his small-scale coconut specialty business, transforming coconut waste into customisable products.
