DFM - Horror Movies Discussion and More Podcast: Quirky, Quippy, Awkard

19/12/2023

Audiogram 2/2: If you're ready for another Xmas movie but want to move on from the crazed Santa killers (or the killer who likes to kill Santas) we all highly recommend this one that you may have missed. It really does play out like a long Twilight Zone episode. This coming Friday we close out our 1st season with the 2019 heavy Xmas Hammer film: The Lodge.

19/12/2023

Audiogram 1/2 - If you haven't caught this episode and are in the mood to rewatch this must-see Bob Clark classic, please check it out. Jake has us covered with some interesting trivia . . .

05/12/2023

Ok hopefully we're turning a corner with all the flu, etc going around. Last week we talked this Joe Dante holiday-horror classic. Not too many PG-rated flicks that arguably qualify as horror, but we say this one counts!

This Friday on the DFM pod!? "It's me . . .Billy." Hungry for the Holidays continues with another dose of John Saxon . . .

23/11/2023

πŸ¦ƒ Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This week we release a day early! πŸ‚ Here's Jake's full segment. We wish you a warm and safe Holiday weekend. 🏈🍻

19/11/2023

Happy Sunday everyone! Hope everyone has been having a great weekend leading up to Turkey week. This Friday at midnight-EST we released our 40th episode: this week's episode was another first for our pod as we cover The Texarkana Moonlight Murders as they are portrayed in this pseudo-docu horror. In segment 2 we discuss the 2007 Zodiac film with a little quirk: 3 Marvelverse actors in a non-Marvel movie, together.

Next Friday we're launching a new yearly tradition for DFM: our first Black Friday Special episode: We're talking George Romero's Dawn of the Dead! Cheers everyone! Also - our Season 2 guide / episode announcement will be released and discussed!

10/11/2023

Happy Friday everyone! This week we're featuring the late great Joe Spinell and the always entertaining Caroline Munro. Sure there's some cheese in this one but also some very intense dramatic flair. Avant-garde might be the best way to describe this horror-comedy, filmed at the 81' Cannes Film Festival.

If you'd like more Joe Spinell content, we also talked about Maniac all the ways back in our bonus episode: 4.75.

Tomorrow at midnight: Episode 38 is about one of those films that upon release, was the ultimate movie-going experience for a great price. Clocking in at over 3+ hrs with two movies for the price of 1, with 4 fake trailers and vintage movie-ads to boot, The Grindhouse was awesome but didn't resonate with audiences in what our trio at the time thought was going to be a sure fire hit. Regardless of the empty theaters, it was quite the experience for our horror-pod trio and if given the chance, we'd go see it in theaters again.

As for the episode title? Well let's just say some of us almost paid way more than just the price of admission for this one. Hope everyone is having a great start to November!

26/10/2023

Happy almost-Friday everyone! Tomorrow we're talking Jake the Midnight Traveler's favorite zombie flick! Another 2hr+ episode is coming out at midnight-est. Leave those cannisters with dead bodies alone! Trust us :)

20/10/2023

Happy Friday everyone - Episode 36 / Week 3 of our Halloween 25/8/366 was released at midnight-est! Did it take you a while to catch this one? Excellent cast! Next week we sit down with Jake again to talk his favorite zombie-flick: Return of the Living Dead!

13/10/2023

(3/3) Happy Friday the 13th! Where does Friday the 13th Part 2 rank in your F13 franchise rankings? It is an awfully close contest for us between Part 2 and the Final Chapter and it is Case's favorite slasher ever. What are your thoughts about Paul and Ted in this film - did they know more about a prowler's existence and were nervous or do they truly believe Jason is a legend? Let us know in the comments!

13/10/2023

(2/3) Happy Friday the 13th! F13 3D is our least favorite film of the 1984 Crystal Lake Massacre Trilogy (2/3D/FC) but it is still a very good slasher - perhaps the last F13 before it really became about the MTV generation. The 3D is a little silly but we've all got to remember Jason's first kill in a hockey mask and it is all thanks to Shelly!

13/10/2023

(1/3) Happy Friday the 13th! Love that they added the Tom Savini elements to the young Tommy Jarvis character - and apparently marketing REALLY loved it. Really enjoyed having Jake on for a 2.5hr episode where we could cover his fave F13 - The Final Chapter.

10/10/2023

Building on last week's ep talking F13, we're back with an impromptu mini-pod episode, sharing our head content contributor Jake's recent summer trip to catchFriday the 13th on the big screen with a cherry Icee in hand and an appreciation for Tom Savini's blood recipe. Just a few more days until our mega 2.5hr episode cover the "84' Crystal Lake Massacre Trilogy" aka Part 2, 3D and the Final Chapter. Happy Tuesday night all!

07/10/2023

Hey there everyone! Hope all are enjoying the first Saturday in October. Yesterday at midnight-est we kicked off our Halloween 25/8/366 Month by discussing 1980's Friday the 13th and recasting the film if it were released in 1997.

This has been our most popular episode to date in our young pod's life! Whatever platform you're checking us out on we just want to say THANK YOU!

What is in store for Week 2 of our spooky themed month? THE 1984 CRYSTAL LAKE MASSACRE! That means 3 movies in 1 episode where Jake the Midnight Traveler joins Carrie and Case for an extra long episode covering F13 Part 2, D and the Final Chapter!

30/09/2023

Happy Saturday everyone and happy October-eve! πŸŽƒ Bear with us on this longer post as we've got some detail to cover.

πŸ‚ Reminder that new episodes come out Fridays at 12am EST.

🩸 This week in Ep. 33 we're talking the fun 2009 sci-fi/action/vampire flick featuring Neil, Dafoe and Hawke. Check us out Ep 12 (The Roost), Ep 21 (The Lost Boys), Ep 26 (Vampyres) and Ep 29 (Fright Night) for more batty-goodness!

πŸ“– If you've got some time, stick around after our throwback intermission ads for our 2nd segment where we talk Carrie's top 10 90's vamp movies and read a little from The Space Vampires book by Colin Wilson (and maybe watch the movie inspired by it, Tobe Hooper's Lifeforce)!

πŸͺ“ Next week kicks off our Halloween 25/8/366 Month! We've got F13 the original, followed up by an extended episode of "The 1984 Crystal Lake Massacre Trilogy" (2, 3D, FC - all 3 movies covered in 1 episode where we discuss favorite survivors, douches, kills and more). The back half of October welcomes our Carpenter Prince of Darkness episode and then Jake the Midnight Traveler leads the way during Halloween, as we discuss an all-time favorite of his - The Return of the Living Dead!

Reminder to check us out on Twitter (or was it X now!?) and Insta for more spooky stuff. To those with us since February and those that are new - thank you for checking us out and spending some time with us - we appreciate the support! End of Season 1 announcement coming about our Season 2 schedule (and we're already working on Season 3s)!!

14/09/2023

Happy Thursday all! Can't get enough of the horrors of dating subgenre? πŸ’‰The Mail Wolf has a special message for Jake the Midnight Traveler. Case, and I review this UK gem, chat cringe teenage dating moments, and then we throw in a mini-review of another deadly femmes flick: Jennifer's Body 🩸

07/09/2023

Audiogram 2/2: Ok, so hear us out: Burial is . . .horror adjacent!? Right!? It is a solid enough flick with a good intro and ending. One *tiny* issue: If you go into this only knowing the trailer, you may be disappointed that there is barely a hint of horror in this film.

Do the horrors of war count? Listen in for something a little different, quizzically brought to you by Shudder. Or, go back to episode 20, where we chat another sorta-horror, Hitchcock's Rear Window.

07/09/2023

Audiogram 1/2: Last week we talked the classic 80s vampire flick, Fright Night and dedicated it to some of the more notable background characters in a horror film. Tomorrow: Well we're NOT talking horror . . .

24/08/2023

What's your favorite quote or dialogue from this essential classic? Tomorrow we close out our Taste of the UK Month with American. Next week we kick off September discussing the original vampire in modern times classic: Fright Night. For real .

17/08/2023

Jake's reaction to our 108 minute Omen episode: "Dear Lord"

Indeed. The Omen Episode aka Jesus: First Blood. Happy Thursday all!

12/08/2023

If you haven't checked us out yet or listened in a while - let us know what you think! We went right from July & Beach Party Bonfires & Blood Month to August where we're talking "Taste of the UK." We kicked it off last week with BBC's made for TV Ghostwatch. Yesterday we released Episode 26 where we talked this steamy 70s vampire flick. Up next? The Omen and then An American Werewolf in London! Thank you everyone for helping us to grow this podcast!

12/08/2023

You know we just realized we were a couple days late on our audiograms here (check us out on twitter and insta too!) We've got a couple audiograms today - first up is Jake Koehler putting in some hard studio work for us to bring us some impressive guitar work over synth. We're really proud to feature this moving forward as our pod theme starting in September!

03/08/2023

1992 Halloween Night - UK: BBC's Ghostwatch scared a nation. Great if you enjoy the WNUF Halloween Special - only in this one, their actual news crew was a part of it.

They were counting on viewers noticing the "written by" and callers getting the "this isn't real message." But after 10s of thousands of calls from creeped out Brits continued to pour in, the message was lost while waiting on the line.

01/08/2023

A little "Behind the Scenes" here at Dying for Midnight Podcast . What are some of the goodies in your collections????

01/08/2023

EXTENDED AUDIOGRAM TIME! If you've got 5 minutes or less, listen in as Jake dishes on his favorite werewolf flick. If you haven't listened in to our last episode of Beach Party Bonfires & Blood Month, check it out - especially if you enjoy the Howling (or The Howling II ? No mediocre or terrible sequels were discussed during the making of this bonus segment!😁

27/07/2023

Yes, I tormented them both. But if you're up for a whopping 128 minute extended episode discussing (mostly) the classic Joe Dante classic with a dash of Howling II madness, then please stick around!

Can't say you'll be rewarded given the ape-suites doubling for werewolves, or the editing choices, or the acting in this film sans the still entertaining Sybil Danning and Christopher Lee - but, c'mon! You can't say there's a ton of werewolf films created behind the Iron Curtain. But, there may be better ones πŸ˜†.

26/07/2023

This Friday Jake is guiding us through his favorite werewolf movie, The Howling! (And yeah, Howling II forced its way into the 2nd half of this extended episode - "Go to hell, Case!" can be heard multiple times)

21/07/2023

We're all a little slow here in the record breaking heat but better late than never with our weekly Thursday Audiogram. Tomorrow's episode? The Beach House featuring Liana Liberato from Scream VI and Jake Weber from the Dawn of the Dead remake. Bonus points if you understand the suitcase reference in the episode title 😁

13/07/2023

Week 2 of Beach Party Bonfires & Blood Month: At no other point do you get to see Paulie Pennino outside of the Rocky franchise . . .except in this flick that is!

06/07/2023

The Lost Boys! Tomorrow we kick off our Beach Party Bonfires & Blood Month by discussing this ultimate vampire movie that helped to define the MTV generation.

Welcome to Santa Carla.
