Retreat Recap: Started in the Board room 🧨 ended in the party van!
Who would have thought a communications retreat would end up with so many laughs?! So much fun to work with this middle school leader team as they drafted communications goals for next year.
And the Harry Potter fans on this team got a retreat special: pictures of Candace dressed at Harry Potter characters (archived footage that these clients found magically entertaining⚡).

There are two types of people in the world: those who lived for math timed tests and those who immediately began plotting their escape plan. 🏃
We get asked our opinion on timed math fact tests often, and unfortunately, the answer isn't always as straightforward as we'd like it to be. However, we LOVE this article from Counting With Kids and couldn't have said it more perfectly ourselves. We'd push educators to consider the purpose and ensure that purpose is aligned to the right plan. If the purpose and the plan don't jive, go back to the drawing board and try again!

After signing a contract, teachers might not interact with their new school for 60+ days - this time period between contract and first day of training can feel lonnnnngggg for a newly-hired (and eager) teammate. You're invited to "log in" with us for a coaching session led by Alecia. Ms. Hadnott is the 7th and 8th grade math teacher at Genesis School, and during this weekly meeting time, Alecia and Ms. Hadnott are checking in about the “MAP Ramp Up” scope and sequence they've created which includes the highest leverage standards to review/cover with students before testing. They reflect weekly to review data and decide if anything needs to be adjusted based on data. Ms. Hadnott is making MOVES for her students!

At Dana Coleman Consulting, we don't just provide the 'how-to' for effective classroom instruction, we dive deeper to equip educators with a roadmap for navigating the challenges that ALSO come up in the classroom.
Last week we led an interactive session with teachers at Hogan Prep, equipping educators with the tools to leverage focused instruction. This team left eager to try the strategies in their classroom, and we're inspired by their determination.

That's why she's ready to lock arms with school leaders working to strengthen and elevate their interview day with candidates. This spring, team DCC worked alongside Kansas City Public Schools to conduct a series of focus groups and analysis around teacher recruitment and retention trends. We're grateful to work with a district team in an effort to re-imagine their approach to attracting, hiring, and retaining educators.

We don't just build the playbooks - we are side-by-side with leaders as they learning new interview skills because we know that coaching and support is game-changer in building confidence for their interview craft.
