Special Announcement

April 17, 2020

Dear Cros-lex Families:

As we all share in the many challenges facing our community / school district as result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I want to ensure the families that the Cros-Lex District remains committed to making every effort possible to support students and parents as long as necessary.

I am pleased to inform you, On Monday, we received notification from the Sanilac County Intermediate School District official approval for the Croswell-Lexington Community Schools Continuity Learning Plan as required by Executive Order 2020-35. Since the school closing mandate was issued to go into effect on Monday March 16th, our professional staff have been working tirelessly, making every effort possible to provide meaningful learning remotely to our students. The ISD’s approval of the submitted Continuity Learning Plan and ultimate approval from the Michigan Department of Education is a reflection of the commitment of our professional staff to make every possible effort to educate our students during the mandated shutdown.

We know there have been and will continue to be bumps in the road with remote learning. Parents, students, and our educators, all are experiencing these challenges together. I encourage parents and students to reach out to our Principals and Teachers with any questions you may have or suggestions to assist you.

There still are many unknowns resulting from the COVID-19 / subsequent Executive Orders that are making it challenging for planning end of year ceremonies, especially the most important celebration / the commencement ceremony for the class of 2020. We are working closely with the High School administration and pursuing a variety of options to find the best possible venue to recognize and honor every individual graduate of the Class of 2020. We anticipate providing more details and an update on the progress to finalize end of year events to senior families next week.

Also, I am excited to inform everyone that Croswell-Lexington Community Schools is joining a nationwide movement and will be honoring all essential workers, educators, and the Class of 2020 by turning on the Pioneer Stadium lights every Friday night, starting tonight at 8:20pm - 8:40 pm, which is 20:20 in military time. We invite all homes to turn their outside lights on at home as well to show support and respect to all of our essential workers, educators, and the Pioneer Class of 2020.

If you do drive by or stop in the school parking lot to view the lights please stay inside your vehicle.

Please stay safe, healthy, and Go Pioneers!

Sincerely,

Daniel Gilbertson

Superintendent

Please hug a high school senior.
To them this is not a few weeks off school. This is 12 years of working towards being the ones that others look up to, to knowing that in a few months they are going to walk across the stage and receive that diploma and start a new life, to having their name called and receiving that award that they have worked years to get, je**ed out from under them.
This is not just simply a blip in their lives, this is what they have worked for four, six even twelve years for. Concerts, school musicals, FFA judging contests, State Conventions, Prom, art shows, acing that test to get them into the college of their dreams.....gone.
That sport that they have played since they were five, baseball/softball the dream of taking that field one last year, one last time and hearing their named called as a senior and taking their spot on the field, maybe defending their title at any level...swept away. Track teams and individuals that have titles to defend, and ones who have titles to earn....all the years of working for that one last chance to prove themselves, those looking at having that college coach get one more chance to take a look at their skills...wiped away.
The basketball and wrestling teams that have made it to state and now have no chance to even compete for all that they have worked so hard for... taken away.
Those who have waited to be the lead in their musical, to sing in that one last concert, to play their instrument in front of a crowd, to participate one last time in an event at Science Olympiad and once again go to State, to sit with their classmates and families and watch slides of their school years and laugh and cry together, heading out on one last field trip to New York City, to not being able to dress up in their formal attire at Prom and dance their worries away, to not being able to walk the halls where they have spent most of their youth and say good bye to those they have spent most of their youth with.... all taken away.
I understand why, and they will to in time, but right now their whole world, everything they have been working for is in turmoil, they have no idea what is going to be taken away from them next... how, when or if they will graduate this year... what to do about college, will they get to play their last season, see their classmates, say good bye to their teachers..
give them a hug, lend them an understanding ear to vent to, and most of all reassure that it will be alright. We are all confused and wondering what will happen next, they were already a bit stressed about their next journey in life and this makes entering the real world a little more terrifying....
