You won’t believe what this hotel does for kids 🤩👶🏼🤩 🛁Bubble bath surprise with balloon animals: While you’re down by the pool or having dinner, the hotel will fill your room’s bathtub with balloon animals and bubbles. The kids were completely over the moon when they returned! 🎨 Unique kids’ club experiences: While the kids club offers classic activities like scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and games — they also go above and beyond to include some more unique offerings. The kids made wax molds of their hands, painted ceramics with a local artist who visits the resort, and loved the “spa day” on the beach. Spa day included face painting, hair styling, and manicures. The kids’ club @rwmayakoba is complimentary. 🐣 Special holiday festivities: You’ll never forget a holiday spent on the road @rwmayakoba. We visited during Easter, and the hotel set up an epic Easter egg hunt on the beach. They left baskets in our room the night before with instructions on where to go in the morning. The pool and beach were decorated with fun decor, and there was plenty of easter-themed treats to enjoy at the food stands. 🎬 Movie night: Every night the hotel sets up a movie for kids — either down on the beach or in a cozy jungle setting by the lagoon. They rotate between classic cartoon picks for little kids, and ones that might interest a slightly older kid crowd. Which activity would your kids like most? THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING ACHENSEE: 𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎 WHEN TO VISIT: Spring and summer would be perfect for a visit to Achensee. This small town tucked into the Alps is a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors — there are plenty of hiking trails for all types of hikers out there. However, the town is also a popular winter destination too. There’s access to skiing, cross country trails, and winter hiking too. GETTING THERE/GETTING AROUND: You’ll need to have a car to get to Achensee. We landed in Munich, where we spent a few days, and then drove 90 minutes to Achensee. It’s a beautiful drive, so have your camera ready. HOW MANY DAYS: 2 full days WHERE TO STAY: Travel Charme Hotel is my pick! It’s right on the lake, with stunning views of the Alps and glacier waters. There are 2 bedroom configurations, which are great for families. There’s also a great spa, 2 pools, and restaurant on site too. WHAT TO EAT: Laurentius offers great local food - and is located right in the hotel too. TOP EXPERIENCES: * Explore the hiking trails that follow the lake (located right outside the hotel’s doors) * Take the gondola up to the top of Karwendel and Rofen Mountain to enjoy scenic views and other hiking trails (summer months only) * Take the kids to these playgrounds: Spielplatz am Stranded, and Atoll Achensee. Spielplatz seems like a playground scene out of the 50’s - no frills. But simple and stunning with the mountain backdrop. Atoll Achensee has a really unique playground. * Check out the public swimming pool at Atoll Achensee - The public pools in Austria are stunning and really clean. 3 Mistakes you don’t want to make in Munich! * Jaywalking - To my fellow New Yorkers, your jay-walking habits must disappear in Munich!  Crosswalks are the way to go, and the locals follow the law. There are even signs posted reminding people that “children are watching” and to set a good example * Not tipping at a restaurant- Unlike some other European countries where it’s not typical to necessarily tip because there is a living wage, German waiters are paid an hourly minimum wage, and thus DO rely on tips.  It’s good practice to tip 10%.  Also, do not leave cash on the table - instead you’re expected to “settle up” when paying the final bill. * Cash is king in Germany! SOMETHING will delay you, so have your own snacks ready to go. 🏃🏻‍♀️Run around before boarding / Don’t be first onboard - Families have priority boarding, but I recommend having one parent board and set up shop, while the other continues to tire out the kids. ✈️ Bring car seat on board - Kids under 2 fly free, but if you have a flexible budget, it’s helpful to buy the extra seat. You’ll have room then to install your own car seat - which is important, not only for safety, but also because it’s familiar to your kid (aka - maybe they’ll fall asleep in it). 🧸Bring toys, old and new - It’s a good idea to bring some “classics” (Maverick loves his cars), but I also try to make a stop at the dollar store to purchase some new small toys. Novelty = distraction tactic. 📱Pre-download iPad games/movies - We always bring the iPad/headphones on board for the kids. However, you MUST remember to pre download your kiddo’s favorite movies, tv shows or games. I just discovered one of the coolest things you can do in Whistler! 🌟Vallea Lumina Light Show ❓It’s a multimedia light show that takes place in the woods at night time. It follows the journey of two fictional hikers through the woods — you can follow along or just simply enjoy the walk. ❓Why go? It’s an incredible production and quite beautiful to see the lights and special effects against the backdrop of the snow 🚙How to get there: It’s a quick 10 minute drive north of Whistler Village, on highway 99. There will be a large sign that says “Welcome to Cougar Mountain” - turn off the highway there, and follow the signs to “basecamp.” You can also take a shuttle from downtown Whistler (this is a separate type of ticket you can purchase). 🥾What to bring: Dress in layers - this is a nighttime winter walk! Also, bring shoes with good traction that can grip the snow — the path can get a little icy in wintertime. 📆Can you visit at other times of the year?: Yes, the show is open almost year round. You never know what you’ll find in the woods… 𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭! 📍Trail name: Trainwreck Trail, Whistler, BC Why are the trains in the middle of the woods?   * In 1956, the trains derailed after approaching a construction zone traveling too quickly. A logging company was hired to move the cars off the tracks, into the forest, where they sit now. Today, it’s a popular hiking experience. The juxtaposition of bright, neon colors in the middle of a natural winter backdrop, is stunningly beautiful! ✅Length: 3.6 miles out and back (about 90 minutes) ❓Difficulty level: Easy in summer/fall, more difficult in the winter due to ice/snow ✅Tips: * Bring snowshoes and check for icy conditions. Even though the trail is not overly long with steep inclines, it can be tricky to traverse in the winter. * Bring a can of spray-paint! * Bring some snacks to enjoy once you reach the clearing ❓How to get there from downtown Whistler: * Take route 99 towards Vancouver * Make a left onto Cheakamus Lake Road * Turn right onto Jane Lakes Road (you will see Whistler Olympic Village) * Drive about a quarter mile down this road, until you see a small parking area to the left.  In the winter this lot may not even be visible, but it is there! There are small signs that indicate parking for Trainwreck Trial  * When you leave the lot to start hiking, turn RIGHT. If you don’t get LL for a desired popular ride, then you’ll want to make sure you beeline for that attraction straight away after rope drop to avoid long lines(more on that below). * Keep using the app during the day to secure more LL passes through the Genie Tip Board. You can get more after you’ve used the one you purchased at 7am OR after 2 hours have passed since park opening. * If you’re staying on Disney property, you have access to the park before general entry. If there’s a small line and you have a LL pass, DON’T USE IT!. Comparison 1- Room/Space Obviously with business, you’ll have more room, the seat is lie flat, and there’s more space, but the economy plus on SAS is really nice! There is a foot rest, the seat reclines more than I had anticipated, and on my 8 hour return flight home, I didn’t feel crowded. Winner: Splurge for business for the overnight if you can, but economy plus is quite nice as a day flight option (or if you’re a good sleeper on red-eye flights). Comparison 2- Food On the overnight flight, business offered 3 meals. The food was okay - there was bread, salad, lobster dish, mushroom risotto and a donut dessert. Economy plus offered 1 meal on the day flight home - there was a salad, and cod and potatoes. It was also just okay Winner: About the same here (business a little better but not by much). Comparison 3-Amenities In business you’ll get a small amenity kit with toothbrush/toothpaste, socks, chapstick, lotion, eye covers. Economy plus had a small bag for your shoes and water bottles. Next time, I’m trying the underwater viewing pods!
