In most discussions on migration, the starting point is usually numbers. Whilst, Understanding changes in scale, emerging trends and shifting demographics related to global social and economic transformations, such as migration, indeed will help us make sense of the changing world we live in and plan for the future.

A reference from the current global estimate is that there were around 281 million international migrants in the world in 2020, which equates to 3.6 per cent of the global population. Overall, the estimated number of international migrants has increased over the past five decades. Frankly, the total estimated 281 million people living in a country other than their countries of birth in 2020 was 128 million more than in 1990, and over three times the estimated number in 1970.

Imagine losing your home or livelihood to devastating and unplanned disaster or to mining Degredation, whilst, experiencing economic , social & Environmental complications in diverse forms due to climate/environmental consequences Or being forced to flee your home due to rampant desertification, rising sea levels or a lack of clean drinking water. Imagine!🤔

These, amongst other critical factor (s) is the reality for thousands and millions of climate refugees who live on the frontlines of the climate crisis. For them, climate change is real, and it is happening now. And as the threat of climate change increases globally, their numbers is grow exponentially.

According to UNHCR, the UNs refugee agency, an annual average of 21.5 million people have been forcibly displaced by weather-related events — such as floods, storms, wildfires and extreme temperatures — since 2008. These numbers are expected to surge in coming decades with forecasts from international thinktank the IEP predicting that 1.2 billion people could be displaced globally by 2050 due to climate change and natural disasters.
