This weeks Wednesday Vase.
Meet duck. He has a deep hatred for rom coms after a brief but torrid affair with Angela from upstream. He has no patience for telephone marketing, knuckle cracking and a large dislike for James Blunt songs. Angela from upstream has a lot to answer for. “Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend.”

I’m channeling fisherman vibes, when seafarers hold up their biggest catch of the day 😂🎣🧅

Yesterday I harvested my first sown Helichrysum, otherwise known as everlasting flowers or straw flowers. These beauts are now hung in the studio to dry ready for winter bouquets, hoops, crowns & decorations. It feels bizarre to be thinking about winter in July, but as the summer hasn’t really arrived weather wise I’ll take this hoard and be thankful!

No pollinators. No people.

Here’s a fascinating fact…Bees need to be able to distinguish different colours when selecting different flowers to forage. It was thought that perhaps bees saw colours as different shades of grey, but a series of very thorough experiments by the ingenious german scientist Karl Von Frisch proved that bees can see different colours. Scroll to see the colours Bees can see.

Worker bees use the sun as a compass when foraging for food, even when the sun is completely hidden by clouds! This is possible because bees can detect the polarisation of sunlight. The polarisation of light indicates the direction that the light is travelling and therefore allows the bee to see where the sun is even when it is hidden behind the clouds.

St Swithins Day. According to tradition, whatever the weather is like on St Swithins Day - whether rainy or sunny - it will continue for the next 40 days and 40 nights. Better get the Brolly ready then 😭☔️☔️☔️

Welcome to the Wednesday Vase. Her name is Jane. She loves kettle chips, crime novels & psychological thrillers. She dislikes fudge, the feel and sound of polystyrene & a greasy oven top.
