The Ocean Cleanup has been working on ways to filter plastic waste out of the Pacific Ocean for nearly 10 years!

The team now use a long, u-shaped barrier, that is pulled through patches of rubbish by boats. It moves slowly to try to avoid harming marine life.

Cameras powered by artificial intelligence are used to continuously scan the ocean's surface for plastic and calibrate the team's computer models, helping them understand which parts of the Pacific area to target. Amazing! 🤩 👏 👏

A Belgian NGO is using human hair clippings to absorb environmental pollutants 😱 😱

The Hair Recycle Project is led by non-profit Dung Dung, which develops waste recovery schemes that support a circular economy.

Clippings are collected from hairdressers across the country. The hair is then fed into a machine that turns it into matted squares. These can be used to absorb oil and other hydrocarbons polluting the environment. They can also be made into bio-composite bags!

After more than four years and countless discoveries, our NASA InSight Mars lander has reached the end of its mission.

InSight was the first spacecraft dedicated primarily to studying the deep interior of another planet. With its suite of scientific instruments, InSight was the first mission to detect seismic waves on Mars, ultimately measuring more than 1,300 "marsquakes" from its base on Elysium Planitia.

The insights we've learned from our lander will help us understand the inner workings of worlds across our solar system—and prepare humans to set foot on the Martian surface.
