12 ways to say Sí 😉
One of the most common words in any language is the one we use to affirm something in relation to a thing, person or situation. In English, this word is Yes. In Spanish, Sí.
However, in all languages there are other words that express an affirmation, in more beautiful, elegant and even fun ways.
Here is a list of different ways to say Sí:
🔴 Claro = Sure/Of course
¿Quieres ir a correr conmigo, el sábado? Claro.
Do you want to go running with me on Saturday? Sure.
🟠 Por supuesto = Of course
¿Tienes tu licencia de conducir vigente? ¡Por supuesto!
Do you have a valid driver's license? Of course.
🟡 Vale = All right
Vale.
So, we arranged to meet at midday to talk about the project? All right.
🟢 De acuerdo = I agree
First thing tomorrow morning we start the campaign, okay? I agree.
🔵 Perfecto = Perfect
Perfecto.
I will pick you up later to go to dinner together, ok? Perfect.
🟣 Dalo por hecho = Consider it done
Will you get the grade you need to pass the course? Consider it done.
🔴 ¿Por qué no? = Why not?
Would you like to go out to dinner instead of take away? Why not?
🟠 No lo dudes = Do not hesitate
Can you finish the project for next week? Do not hesitate.
🟡 No te puedo decir que no = I can't say no to you
¿Podrías ayudarme a estudiar matematicas, por favor? No te puedo decir que no.
Could you help me study math, please? I can't say no to you.
🟢 Obvio/ Obviamente= Obvious/ Obiously
Obviamente.
Did you take the key out before closing the door? Obviously.
🔵 Indudablemente = Undoubtedly
Indudablemente.
Was this a better holiday than last year? Undoubtedly.
🟣 Indiscutiblemente = Indisputably
Aunque tu familia no te apoye, ¿vas a seguir adelante con esa idea? Indiscutiblemente.
Even if your family doesn't support you, are you going to go ahead with that idea? Indisputably
Hi Athertonians!
Now I want to tell you about the Sayings
The sayin (refrán) is a popular phrase used in everyday speech. Its main characteristic is that it has emerged from experience and that is why we use it to express advice, teachings, reflections or sentences.
Let's see this example "A caballo regalado no se le mira el diente" The phrase is linked to the old tradition of observing the teeth of the animal before buying it to know its age and health conditions. But if the "horse" is a gift, "you don't look at its teeth": it is accepted as it is, without criticism.
A saying can be translated literally, however it is not mandatory. We can find different expressions with equivalent meanings in other languages.
The literal translation in English of our example would be "A gift horse does not look at the tooth" but in this way it seems to make no sense, instead the way it has become popular in English is "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth "
One of the richest languages in sayings is Spanish, since it has more than 100,000 different sayings, which have been transmitted as oral tradition of the peoples.
Here you have images with some of the most popular sayings that can help you in your conversations in Spanish. If you know others, leave them in the comments and I will gladly tell you the Spanish version.
If one person, one fateful day, had chosen a bacon butty instead of bat on a stick for breakfast, how would the world be now?
This is a joke of course, but it brings one to think of how the actions of others can influence the lives of so many people in a domino effect scenario. In this time it is even more important to think about your individual decisions and the devastating effects that can accumulate due to your actions.
This brings us to our film recommendation. When most people probably ran out of viewing material, its a good time to familiarise to some street language and contrast with a formal one at the same time with this great Latin movie.
‘Amores Perros’ (Love's a Bitch) is an Oscar nominated Mexican film, it tells 3 interconnecting stories, revolving around an accident that changes the life of several persons that never before met. Not to go too far into the description, but this film has some upsetting scenes, however also the ability to stay with you long after viewing.
Although no animals were harmed during filming, if you are a sensitive nature dont watch. Unsuitable for children.
It is available on Amazon and I’m sure some other platforms.
It would be great to hear your comments.
Stay safe guys
Carmen
Hello Everybody! A special gift for you.
This is one of the most beautiful spanish song. The singer is Mercedes Sosa, one of the biggest latin singer. Her spanish and pronunciation are perfect and clear, many people say they learn more from her than any class...please enjoy it. 😊
THANKS TO LIFE
Thanks to life, which has given me so much
It has given me two stars that when I open them
Perfect I distinguish black from white
And in the high sky its starry backdrop
And within the crowds the man I love
Thanks to life, which has given me so much
it has given me the ear that, in all its width
record night and days, crickets and canaries
hammers, turbines, barking, showers
and the tender voice of my loved one
Thanks to life, which has given me so much
it has given me the sound and the alphabet
With the words that I think and declare
Mother, friend, brother and light shining
The soul route of who I'm loving
Thanks to life, which has given me so much
it has given me the steps of my tired feet
With them I walked cities and puddles
Beaches and deserts, mountains and plains
And your house, your street and your patio
Thanks to life, which has given me so much
gave me the heart that shakes its frame
When I look at the fruit of the human brain
When I look at the good so far from the bad
When I look at the bottom of your clear eyes
Thanks to life, which has given me so much
It has given me laughter and it has given me tears
so I distinguish happiness from brokenness
the two materials that create my song
and your song which is the same song
and everyone's song which is my own song
Thanks to life...
