Chris Neuman Art
Chris Neuman is an artist based in New England.
Purples!
I painted the figure on paper because it was just a study. I really wasn't expecting it to come out as well as it did or I would have painted it on panel. But with some PVA archival adhesive, was easy to install onto a panel.
And now for something a bit...cheeky 😉
Also I realised...fingers are hard to paint 🤣
Inspired by a German artist I follow on Insta named Wojciech Wos who creates beautiful figure paintings.

Did someone say series? 😬 Another 90 minute max painting done. This one is a bit more loose than the carrot painting because of all the individual grapes to paint in 90 minutes. Part of me wants to clean up the edges and another part doesn't. Still looks great from 4+ feet away. 🍇
The Carrot, framed
Spiced up the website a bit. Check it out at chrisneuman.com
First time in months I've attempted a 90 minute challenge painting. Love how it came out! 🥕
I’ve decided to start selling some of my original art at my website chrisneuman.com. Both paintings are 10”x10” oil on panel in handmade (by me) maple floater frames.
I have no idea how to price my art because I haven’t sold any original paintings before so I just figured this is what they’re worth to me considering how many hours I put in and the sentimental value I have to them. Any questions please message me. Thanks.
I think I’m going to start selling some of my paintings. These are my first few paintings and it’s hard to think about giving them up. But also they’re just accumulating in my home and I believe they would be better served on a wall in someone’s home who would appreciate them. I’ll add a shop button on my website soon and post an update when it’s live.
Finally found some time to start painting again. Very early color block-in of a still life found on Instagram. The blue of the dish and mug with the yellow lemons is just 🥰
Finished! This was my first start to finish still life. I setup the composition with my pears and my plate (including the chip in it), setup the lighting and then painted it. Very happy with how it came out.
Still Life with Pears - 10”x10” - Oil on panel - April 2021
Started another still life. This time of a still life I actually created (rather than copying someone else’s). Love doing these!
Another quick 90 minute practice still life. This time of an avocado 🥑
Finally found some time to make a frame for it.
Another “90 minute max” painting finished! Still not 100% satisfied with the jar top, but otherwise I love how it came out and it will look great in our office/showroom.
Finished the lemons when I was home for lunch. Just need to straighten out the janky jar top and it’s good to go.
Started another 90 minute max painting. About 30 minutes into this one. Referencing one of Chris Fornataro- Paint Coach tutorials. The yellows and grays caught my eye. Plus it’s the same color scheme in our business’s office, so I’ll have a nice place to hang it.
Ok it’s done! I had to force myself to stop. Still workin’ on that perfectionism. 👍🏼
However I’m still very happy with how this came out and also very happy with my progress with painting. The next few paintings will be a bit more simple lol
Almost done! Still have the knife and cutting board to finish. And still not 100% satisfied with the mug.
Ended the day painting on the porch. Was a beautiful 64°. I’m thinking I have about 2-3 more hours left on this. Also thinking this could be the first painting I put up for sale. Maybe. 🤷🏻♂️
Painting cloth is my new mortal enemy! Was hoping to have this finished today but that cloth kicked my ass 🤣
More floater frame making! This time in maple with a satin poly finish.
Bottle and one orange done! Loving how that orange came out.
This one’s gonna take a bit longer than 90 minutes 🤣
“Granny Smith” 10x10 oil on linen panel.
Second in my series of 90 minute max paintings. Love how this one came out and only took a bit more than an hour. Onto the next one!
“Lobster Buoy” 12x12 oil on panel.
This is the first in a series of paintings that I will finish in under 90 minutes.
The main focus for doing this is, of course, practice, practice, practice, but also to help with my sometimes debilitating perfectionism that has hampered my artistic growth in the past.
Massive Shout out to Michael Chamberlain for this specific painting inspiration, and for all the wisdom he shares on a daily basis on YouTube and Patreon. It’s helped me out a great deal.
Framing all the things!
DONE! “Blow Pop” 10x10 oil on linen panel study. Many thanks to Kate Birch for the inspiration (oddly she’s not on Facebook but her Instagram is https://instagram.com/kebirch). She does these lovely daily 6x6 gouache paintings but I’m never quick enough to buy one so I thought I would paint one myself. 👍🏼
Work in progress: “Blow Pop” 10x10 oil on linen canvas
Spent a couple of hours today “restoring” a 30 year old painting of mine.
I never varnished it, and being the subject matter it is, it was always hung in my kitchen. So it was a bit greasy and had a couple small stains here and there. Plus it was in an old metal frame I really didn’t like.
So I removed it from its frame, cleaned what I could and color matched some paint to touch up the stains that wouldn’t clean.
Now I’ll let it sit for a week and then put a nice coat of varnish on it. In the meantime, I’ll make another one of my poplar floater frames for it.
Rough color blocking finished on my next painting. This is my most favorite place in all of New England. Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk, Maine. Spent so much time here growing up. ❤️❤️
16”x20” oil on panel
“Boat in Fog” 11x14 oil on linen panel in handmade poplar floater frame.
Seriously loving how this frame came out. Was so easy to make using 1 3/4” x 1 3/4” poplar corner “L” moulding. Painted inside black, then added risers to secure the panel.
Making some more panels. So much less expensive than store bought 👍🏼
Kind of tough to tell the difference in these pics, but a varnish can help colors pop and bring a bit of contrast to a painting. Not to mention the added protection.
DONE!! 11x14 oil on linen. Still not 100% satisfied with the water, looks more like snow to me. But oh well. Gotta practice more. Onto the next one!
Maybe another half hour left on the boat then to tackle the water. It’s tough sometimes to keep my perfectionism at bay. This DOES NOT need to exactly match the reference image. I gotta keep reminding myself that.
About half way through this boat painting. Still tons more work left on the water and a little left on the boat.
Built a floater frame from some reclaimed wood. Fun project. Saved quite a bit of $$ over store bought.
Apple still life on iPad is finished! I sure wish painting in oils was this fast.
Back to the iPad for a quick apple still life study. Still need to finish the napkin and table it’s sitting on.
