Ashe County Agriculture
Ashe County Agriculture is a page dedicated to sharing and celebrating all the farm resources available is this area.
Agriculture is the largest unit of our economy with farmers producing cattle, Christmas trees, pumpkins, produce & numerous other crops.
It’s a beautiful day in the High Country.
Can y’all help me wish these gentlemen a very Happy Birthday today. It’s a little ironic that today, as we celebrate the beginning of a new Agriculture facility that these three Ashe County iconic farmers are also celebrating a birthday. Livestock producer, Mr. Ed Sturgill, Christmas tree producer, Mr. Paul Poe, and crop producer Commissioner Jerry Powers. As we celebrate your birthday, we also celebrate the commitments each of you have made to the suceess of Agriculture in the High Country. Thank you and Happy Birthday.
Our neighbors in Glendale Springs were celebrating the 4th...farm style.
Ashe County is home to a variety of farms...from livestock and equine to trees and crops both large and small. We would love for you to share your farm with us. Post a picture in the comments, tell us the name of your farm, what you produce and any other information you would like to share.
This is so exciting!!! I can’t wait to host our first Agricultural County Fair, livestock shows for our kids, 4-H, FFA and equine events too.
Join me in thanking our North Carolina dairy farmers for all of their hard work! I think I will have to celebrate with some NC State Howling Cow Ice Cream.
NC has 120 dairy farms and is home to about 38,000 dairy cows. Even though we don’t have as many dairies as we did in the 1980’s the number of cows are producing the same amount of milk. Now that’s progress.
It's funny how a farmer spends countless hours getting the land ready, from plowing to planting. He spends $1000's of dollars on fuel, equipment, and repair bills. He spends many hours praying for rain or sunshine instead of sleeping. He sweats like no other job will make you. He works like most people wouldn't.
He gets yelled at and cussed out by people who get caught behind the tractor traveling down the road, and he spends many times of the day wondering if it's worth it! The deer, coyotes, hogs, c***s, gophers, grasshoppers are just a few pests to contend with!! He does all of this for what??? Ask yourself, "Why would he do that?"
The answers are all around you. The plate of food sitting in front of you, the clothes on your back, the shoes on your feet, and the last answer is the one that puzzles most people. It's the dust, love for agriculture, and the satisfaction of knowing he has done his part at the end of the day! I'd like to thank all the farmers out there who help make the world go round!
God bless our farmers!
