Yet again, the bells are tolling as the ship has left the dock, loaded with a prince of faith & a personal friend to me. Bishop J. Delano Ellis boarded the ship of Zion & set sail in the fog of the morning dew to a destination he long-awaited, leaving us waving from the shore. ⁣

The Bishop is a native of Philadelphia, PA, educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Howard University. Bishop Ellis received his Master’s in Religious Education from Nazarene Theological Seminary & a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Ecclesiology and Episcopacy from Stafford University in London, England.⁣

He received his Ordination at the hands of (the Late) Bishop Ozro Thurston Jones, Sr. in 1963, and was elevated to the Episcopacy in 1970 at the hands of (the Late) Bishop Brumfield Johnson at Boston, Massachusetts.⁣

Having founded the Joint College of Pentecostal Bishops, he was elected (unanimously) by the Joint College in session in 2006 at Cleveland, Ohio, with 200 Bishops casting a ballot & endorsing the Patent for the bishop’s Archiepiscopacy.⁣

Bishop Ellis has served the Christian Faith in Ministry for more than 61 years as a student, seminarian, teacher, pastor, professor, & now, as Patriarch for more than 20 million Pentecostals throughout the world. The bishop served our Military Community as National Chief of Chaplains for the United States Air Force Auxiliary in the Grade of Colonel, until his retirement in 2014. ⁣

My condolences to his widow, his family. You lost so much more than a senior statesman. My heart goes out to you. The global church who experienced his uniqueness, humor & style understand that he was a multilayered historian of church treasure & a delight to draw from. The cumulative effect of how many of our patriarchs & matriarchs that have left us in recent days make this loss all the more difficult. His grace, the erudite & charismatic ambassador, J. Delano Ellis, has been summoned to the palatial shores of glory, there to bask in the light of Christ, Himself! To all who mourn his passing, may I remind you, at the next tolling of the bells or the blaring of the trump of God, we will soon meet again!
