Turtlebunnies Cosplay
Hello and nice to meet you! I'm Turtlebunnies, though most people call me Kame. :) I'm a Utah cosplayer that has been in the hobby for over 10 years!
Long time no talk, cosplay page! I hope to be more active here when life calms down a bit - marriage, moving, and con crunch all in one perfect storm!
Here is my costume line-up for Anime Banzai next week! (...eek, so much handsewing left).
Friday - Susan Strong from Adventure Time, with the amazing VFire Cosplay as Finn! We will be heroes in Cosplay Chess, so come cheer for us!
Saturday - We are FINALLY debuting our Yu-Gi-Oh costumes in the contest this year! This will be the third time we have tried to compete in them. Thief King Bakura has been a dream costume of mind for as long as I can remember, it feels like.
Sunday - I'm so excited to participate in a big Sailor Moon yukata group! :) I'll also be part of the Body Positivity panel at 10:00, so come say hi and watch me try to be eloquent :P
That cosplay feeling when an experiment turns out better than you thought it would~
:o awesome idea!
How I'm going to start keeping track of my swatches and fabrics!
Congratulations to Team Indonesia, World Cosplay Summit 2016 Champions! Their skit was amazing, and so were their costumes.
There were so many incredible teams this year! Did anyone else stay up late to watch WCS? Its becoming tradition for me.
Super congrats Grand Champions Team Indonesia!
Their performance was amazing (and you should have heard the theater go nuts for their finale!) and they were so happy to bring home so many prizes for their country! They were especially blown away by the overwhelming response their skit achieved online.
We leave for the special tour tomorrow where we will hopefully have more time to relax with everyone, and grab more photos, but for now enjoy Ali kicking it with Rian Cyd as he threatens to suck her blood. (Staying hydrated is important!)
Had so much fun at the cosplay for a cause charity event today! It was video game themed, so with some help from Unroyalty Cosplay I whipped out Hajime Hinata from my new obsession, Danganronpa
I always feel lost when I finish a big project...I know there are lots of costumes I want to do, but when its time to start a new one its like I can't remember any! So I decided to make this album to help me remember :) It will update a lot, I'm sorry D:
Aveline Vallen from Dragon Age 2~
Clow Reed - Card Captor Sakura
These are cosplays that I did once...that I really want to redo now that I know what I'm doing a bit better, or have more time XD Some of them are just short of being finished!
Someone mentioned I should share this on my cosplay page, so I am doing so! :) (Sorry to those of you getting spammed at both ends about this.)
Last weekend, my Feudal Japanese Aquaman won Best in Show at Anime Banzai!!! I am still in shock, wibbly, giddy, and occasionally disbelieving that this actually happened. ;A;
Love this!
Oooh! Need to save this for later :) Super useful, with tips in the description if you don't understand the pictures by themselves!
Tutorial time: How to sew inset corners! A really useful skill that a lot of people have trouble with. Mastering this technique will enable you to piece together seams with difficult angles, and also help improve your precision and dexterity overall.
There are probably multiple ways to do this, but here is the method I learned from God Save the Queen Fashions when I was her intern.
1. Start by marking the seam allowances on the back of your fabric to find the exact point at which your corners intersect. On the piece which will be the outer corner (blue in my sample) I have marked the entire length of the seam allowance for clarity. I sometimes do this when sewing complex shapes. On the piece which will be inset (pink here), you can just mark the corner itself.
2. This is just three different views of how the pieces should be pinned and positioned. With the right sides of the fabric together, push a pin through the exact corner of your outside piece (blue) and then through the exact corner of your inside piece (pink) so that they are brought together face-to-face at this point. Pivot the fabric pieces until edges line up along the first side you will be sewing, then prepare to feed it into your machine. When sewing, it will be easier to keep the outside piece (blue) on top.
3. Stitch along the first side, removing the pin before you reach it. On the final stitch, make sure that your needle lands in the exact corner where the pin was. With the needle still engaged in the fabric, lift the presser foot. This is now a pivot point.
4. Pivot the fabric around so that you are looking at the inside of your corner. With a pair of very sharp, narrow snips, clip through the top layer as close as you can possibly get to the needle itself.
5. Pull the other side of the top piece around until its edges line up with the other side of the bottom piece. This opens up the cut you just made. You should be able to fold down the excess fabric fairly neatly if your corner is clean. Once you are in position to sew the second side, lower the presser foot.
6. Stitch along the second side and tie off your thread. Once you remove it from the machine, you should have something like this. The blue fabric is still folded up in my hand in this image so that you can see both sides of the corner.
7. Unfold your fabric, lay it flat, and enjoy the excellent corner you have sewn. If yours isn't as crisp as you'd like it to be, press it flat with an iron or consider top-stitching, as shown in the first image.
Practice will make you better at this. When I first learned, Cathy made me sew like ten in a row until they looked better than the one in this sample (sorry, Cathy). If you're having trouble, be patient and keep trying and you will end up an expert.
Now show me all of your beautiful inset corners!
I stayed up until 6:30 am on Friday/Saturday to watch the livestream of World Cosplay Summit! If you were not able to do that, which is understandable, here is an article listing the awards, and showing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place performances! :)

My world feels like it is hexagons right now. XD Decided to take a little break from cutting and melting to make this little collage with pixlr.com! :) Not a tutorial, just documenting what I did on this part of my costume >w>
Awesome trick! :D
, because I recently cleaned out my computer and came across some old photos! About 5 years ago, an epic fog rolled in...so I threw together a Cybil cosplay from Silent Hill because that is just what you do when an epic fog rolls in.

Pokemon gijinka is kind of how I got my cosplay start! I think I'll always have a soft spot for it.
This is so cool! :) I can't wait to use this to color match some of my planned cosplays that have really specific lip colors~

Phew! Long time no speak - Fantasy Con is over and I somehow survived marching in their parade on the 4th of July! It was super hot, but so many friends showed up to march with us in the Utah Nihon Matsuri walking group! It was lots of fun. I wore my new Rao costume (from the video game Okami) which I finished 30 minutes before the parade itself. XD No pictures really exist of it, but thats okay - I'll fix it up so its exactly how I want it and do a proper photoshoot! :) Thanks to everyone who showed up for the parade! It was also nice to see everyone who said hi at the con itself!
Thank you so much for the likes, everyone!
It took me 20 minutes and several papercuts to get these massive pieces of cardboard into my car. XD much to the amusement of those who watched me lug it out of the dumpster and across the parking lot. Now how do I get it out.
My line-up for Anime Salt Lake! Me and Kimi will be running an artist alley table with our friend Angela! Stop by and see us~
My first job is out for the summer, which means more TIME TO DO THINGS~!
Push your motivation and effort to the max! I joked about this before but everyone's experienced that rush of energy/desperation to finish their cosplay in time.
So much has been completed yet so much left to do. You've been working in your outfit for hours on end with little rest. Yet, you know you MUST finish!
This is make or break. The point that separates the wheat from the chaff, the Jiggles from the puffs, the dragons from the balls!
So are you a dragon or are you just balls? (Hmmm...k that metaphor worked better in my head)
Cover photo hints at my next big project ;D
