Time for an updated family pic on here!! Look at how big and strong our plant based girls are getting! Leea is 5.5 and Remi is 2.5 šŸ˜šŸ˜

In the beginning I had so many people share their concern with me about raising my girls on plants and Iā€™m so proud to say that they are thriving! Blowing past every developmental stage with flying colors, Leea is getting rave reviews from her teachers at school, and they are spending their days healthy, happy, active, and energetic instead of sick, lethargic, distracted, and cranky. Our functional pediatrician now partners with us and even recommends other families follow suit. Iā€™m so grateful I stuck to my (plant based) guns! šŸ’ŖšŸ¼šŸŒ±

Itā€™s just tastes better when you grow it yourself am I right?

Top three reasons to grow your own food.
1. Itā€™s cleaner for your family and the environment.
2. Itā€™s more nutritious and tastes so much better than produce that has been traveling across the country or not allowed to vine ripen.
3. Itā€™s saves you so much money. We calculate that we save hundreds of dollars a month with our two vertical gardens that we just replant season after season.

Anyone else getting inundated with tomatoes right now like we are? šŸ…šŸŒ±

Guess what?! Our Creamy Tomato Bisque Recipe can be used for homemade SpaghettiO's. They taste REALLY similar when you mix the soup with some chickpea Banza letter noodles and itā€™s been great to send in Leeaā€™s preschool lunch box. We then got curious and looked up everything that was in a traditional can of Campbell's SpaghettiO's šŸ˜³

SpaghettiOs ingredients:

"Water, Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Enriched Pasta (Wheat Flour, Niacin, Ferrous Sulfate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), High Fructose Corn Syrup (12 grams), Contains Less Than 2% Of: Salt, Enzyme Modified Cheddar Cheese (Cheddar Cheese [Cultured Milk, Salt, Enzymes, Calcium Chloride], Water, Disodium Phosphate, Enzymes), Vegetable Oil (Corn, Canola, And/Or Soybean), Enzyme Modified Butter, Skim Milk, Beta Carotene For Color, Citric Acid, Paprika Extract, Flavoring. Contains: Wheat, Milk"

Our tomato basil soup ingredients:

Onion, Garlic, Tomato Paste, Basil, Sundried Tomatoes, Olive Oil, Veggie Broth, Tomatoes, Unsweetened Almond Milk and Cashews, (Or replace both with oat creamer if you want nut free for school lunches!), Salt.

Banza Alphabet Chickpea Pasta Ingredients:

Chickpeas, Pea Starch, Tapioca, Xanthan Gum.

It really is tragic that a laundry list of mostly toxic or inflammatory ingredients is acceptable in food in general but especially in food that is marketed to our children. Not okay. Who else agrees?! It's amazing the difference a little extra effort to cook a homemade version can make plus all of the adults in your family will be fighting over it too!

If you get our weekly emails the full recipe is in your inbox from Friday otherwise go to raisedonplants.com or text ā€œgift meā€ to 704-579-6429 to get plugged in!

Tonight is the night! It feels like Christmas because we are debuting our ā€œFueling a Plant Based Pregnancyā€ Master Class and Guidebook!

When I was first pregnant with Leea I was so frustrated that there was little to no support for mamas to be who wanted to fuel their pregnancies with an all or mostly plant based diet. Instead I found a lot of guilt, shame, and stress from people who simply had not learned what I had learned.

THAT is why I put this together. For you, the woman (current mom, mom-to-be, or hopeful future mama) who wants to feel empowered, supported, and confident in your journey to motherhood no matter what current season or struggle you are in. I want to help you seek truth, build your knowledge and belief, glow from much more than pregnancy hormones and most of all create the healthiest possible environment for you and your babies. šŸ™šŸ»

Iā€™m so excited to pour my heart and everything Iā€™ve learned into all of the women registered as well as debut the 40+ page guidebook full of extra content, recipes, all kinds of checklists, essential nutrients guide, registry inspo, my natural labor and birth story, and more!

Itā€™s not too late if you still want to join us and if you canā€™t attend the live class you will have immediate access to the recording! Grab a ticket at raisedonplants.com/summer-series/ and we will be in touch with all the goodies!

Thank you in advance for sharing this with anyone it would bless! Love you friends!

May the force be with you if your child also loves eating a super juicy pear like this and dripping it all over the house. Someone come mop our house and we will cook for you!! šŸ™ƒ Sometimes snack time in our house isnā€™t fancy. Itā€™s just a big ole piece of whole fruit or a giant carrot to munch on. Keep it simple mamas! Youā€™re doing so great and feeding your babies as many plants as possible is WORTH IT!

Plant based mama hack! To make a PB and J extra special and nutritious upgrade your ingredients to...

Unsalted organic nut butter
Reduced sugar raspberry jam (TJā€™s)
Fresh organic raspberries

And then best of luck trying not to eat your childā€™s breakfast. Probably best if you just go ahead and make yourself one too. šŸ˜‰

There are very few people on this earth who donā€™t enjoy the garlicky, creamy deliciousness of fettuccine alfredo and peas! Of course this is one of those staples that you think youā€™ll never be able to enjoy again if you start eating plant based. WRONG. We got you girl!

Our take on this traditional comfort food is oil free, vegan, gf and made with roasted cauliflower, pine nuts, plenty of garlic, white cooking wine, fresh squeezed lemon juice and some other delicious additions. When we go for a meal like this we GO FOR IT meaning we use imported Italian fettuccine from Italy (not gf but it doesnā€™t hurt my stomach because itā€™s straight from Italy!) but you could absolutely just choose your favorite gf quinoa or lentil pasta or even use zucchini zoodles as the base!

If you already receive our weekly email this recipe was delivered straight to your inbox on Friday! If youā€™re not already a part of the you can sign up via raisedonplants.com and you will get our free Flipbook and this past Fridayā€™s emailed delivered straight to you šŸ˜Š (And if you have any trouble at all finding it just send us a message and we will hook you up as always!)

We hope this helps you get more nutrients into your family at dinner time and makes you feel like your favorite person is giving you a big hug when you are eating it!

ā€œIf you want to change the world, go home and love your familyā€. - Mother Teresa

Anyone else have a stage five mommy clinger attached to their body at all times right now? šŸ™‹šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø If she could literally crawl back into my belly she currently would. As hard as it is to be productive with a 97th percentile for height two year old attached to my leg or hand at all hours of the day, itā€™s also reminding me why I always wanted to be a mom. We both crave each other. Donā€™t get me wrong I am definitely jealous of Jakeā€™s ability to move freely through the house, use the bathroom, eat, etc. (you know the basics) without a tiny human running after him screaming ā€œwait mammmmaaaaā€... but we are also making such special memories these days as she helps me do my makeup, pick out clothes, cook, clean, fold laundry, and ā€œplay animalsā€ on the floor of her room. One day I know Iā€™ll miss this so Iā€™m trying to memorize how her little hand feels in mine and how she just hugs me tight every so often throughout the day saying ā€œI love you so much mama.ā€ It makes everything else on my mind or to do list melt away in that moment because at the end of the day mamas this is our most important job. To be present and love our babies hard so that they can learn to spread love, kindness, and patience to others. It starts with us. So free yourself of trying to always get everything done. Let them be little, let them hold onto you a little tighter and a little longer. We are shaping their hearts and your sweet baby girl or boy is going to make the world a happier place because of it. šŸ’—šŸ™šŸ»

Fact. Plant based sushi is taking over the world. Well, our world at least. And we want more people to learn how simple, delicious, and fun it can be to put this on rotation in the meal planning for your family!

Jake, being from California, used to almost put an all you can eat sushi restaurant out of business in one meal. We went on our very first date when we were 18 to Ami Sushi in Westwood and before I was 100% plant based, sushi was the last thing lingering since Iā€™m pretty sure I had an emotional connection to it from our years at UCLA. But, we both finally learned that when we ā€œcraved sushiā€ we really just wanted that sushi rice and tamari flavor comb with the creamy avocado and the crunch of the cucumber. When we tried our first plant based sushi we mind blowingly didnā€™t even miss the fish!

Now we save plant based sushi nights for date nights at home or a fun family activity since Leea loves a plant based sushi roll! Our favorite combo is oyster mushrooms cooked in a sweet mirin sauce, avocado, and cucumber (and Jake adds Spicy Mayo) but there are so many combos you can try. Here is the recipe for our favorite sauce!

Jakeā€™s Sweet ā€œEel Sauceā€
1/4 Cup Mirin
1/4 Cup Tamari
1/4 Cup Organic Cane Sugar
Add all ingredients to a stovetop sauce pan and stir ingredients until it begins to steam. Don't bring to a boil. Let it steam for a few minutes and then remove from heat. Allow to cool in the fridge and you will have that classic eel sauce from sushi restaurants.

If youā€™re totally not convinced yet that you can still enjoy sushi without the seafood, let us help you see the light! Youā€™ll not only be so much healthier for it by avoiding high levels of mercury and heavy metals but youā€™ll also help to preserve our oceans so our children actually get to experience a living coral reef with fish in their lifetime! Check out our plant based sushi highlight above or reach out if youā€™d like the recording of the most recent plant based sushi meal prep party and the full recipe packet to go along with it!

Mind blown. Check out this ā€œscience experimentā€ we did this morning as part of our weekly live on my profile!

We put store-bought synthetic kidsā€™ vitamin supplements (not naming the brand here but letā€™s just say it was a very popular one) in one container. We then put the whole food fruit and veggie kidsā€™ gummies that we have used as a family for 26 years into another container.

We added water and waited. The results were shocking but also not very surprising considering we know that getting your nutrition from whole food plant sources is the most safe, efficient, and effective way to create a solid health foundation for your family.

After awhile, the synthetic vitaminsā€™ water had a neon tint to it and the outer coating was the only thing flaking off. The whole food gummies naturally dissolved into a fibrous juice like consistency that looked like fresh squeezed apple juice. Mind blown.

Itā€™s scary to think this could be a reflection of what is happening in your childā€™s body. Check your childā€™s gummies for these five criteria...
1. Do they have a ā€œnutrition factsā€ label meaning they are a food and regulated by the FDA? (Supplements are simply not regulated in our country)
2. Are they chemical free (even stricter than organic) with a third party testing certification?
4. Do they have any kind of a poison control or ā€œdo not consume when you are pregnantā€ warning label on the back? If so, obviously thatā€™s not something we want going into our babiesā€™ bodies.
4. Does the product have gold standard clinical studies proving bioavailability on children eating the exact brand name gummies themselves? Can the company send it to you?
5. What happens when you put them in water? šŸ˜‰

If all five things check out then great job mama! If you want us to send you a sample of our favorite fruit and veggie gummies just send us a message and we will happily get them to you! We want all children to have access to the real deal!

Thereā€™s a new favorite breakfast parfait in the kitchen! Hot cinnamon butter pears with coconut yogurt and homemade blueberry pecan granola!

We just peeled and sliced fresh pears and sautƩed them on the stovetop (you could absolutely use a grill pan too) with a little vegan butter and cinnamon.

Homemade granola is SO easy.Ā Ā Who knew? Add 3 cups of gluten free oats, raw nuts of your choice (we used pecans), and dried fruit of your choice (we used dried blueberries) to a bowl.Ā Ā Mix in 2 tbsps olive oil, a little salt, a little cinnamon, a tsp of vanilla, extract, and enough maple syrup to sweeten it to your taste.Ā Ā Add this granola to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and oven bake at 325 degrees stirring every 15 minutes.Ā Ā Ours was ready around 40 minutes. Just watch it at the end so it doesn't burn and you have healthy homemade granola!

For the yogurt we used unsweetened coconut yogurt and mixed a little bit of our favorite vanilla superfood powder (link in bio) in it to add more nutrition and make it taste extra creamy and vanilla-y. (Definitely just made that word up like my two year old makes up words that donā€™t exist)

Now just combine everything together into the most delicious plant based parfait! Drizzle with maple syrup if you need it to be a little on the sweeter side. Store anything you donā€™t eat in mason jars for the next day and the next day and the next.

We are obsessed! Our girl gifted us the most amazing handmade ā€œRaised on Plantsā€ charcuterie board from her friendā€™s shop in Columbia, SC. Iā€™m feeling like we might need to plan some plant based happy hour hangouts with all of you so we can put it to good use even if we have to do them virtually for now?! In the meantime, it at least makes a great background for Leeaā€™s snack tray today. Itā€™s the little things right? Hopefully everyone is seeking to find joy and gratitude in the details like we are these days. šŸ™šŸ»

Photos from Raised on Plants's post 13/01/2021

We are ALL smiles today because we turned our microwave (that we havenā€™t used in over a year) into a Menu chalkboard and upgraded spice storage! All Jake needed was the initial idea (thanks to yours truly) a thin board cut to the dimensions, chalkboard paint, and velcro hanging strips to make this happen. You can check our last two IGTVā€™s for all of the details and tips. We are challenging you to ditch your microwave once and for all for an air fryer and level up your spice storage so that you donā€™t have any temptations to use it again. šŸ˜‰šŸ’ŖšŸ» If we can do it (with a toddler) then so can you!!

If you have a toddler then snacks are a BIG part of your day. Grab a silicone ā€œegg bite moldā€ off Amazon and fill it with delicious fruit, veggies, nuts, seeds, grains, and beans. Most of them come with a lid so you can pop the entire thing into the fridge and pull it out again later after naptime for round 2. Here are some plant based snacks that are Leea (and Ana and Elsa) approved... happy snacking!

Edamame with nori sprinkles
Apple sticks dipped in h**p hearts
Roasted sweet potatoes with cinnamon
Vegan cheddar shreds (Violife)

Tips for eating plant based while traveling! Our family has officially tested negative for co-vid (a USVI requirement) so we are headed to spend two weeks in St. John at our familyā€™s home away from home . We know lots of you are going to be safely venturing out to see family if you can around the holidays so we thought some plant based travel tips would be helpful! Even if you are not traveling any time soon, we share all of our favorite snacks on the go in this episode. Which, letā€™s be honest mamas, our current lot in life is to hand over snacks to our children every 3.5 seconds so we could all use some inspo in this department.
