Opening April 29
Mon thru Sat
9am - 5pm
Sun 1am - 4pm
We are so sorry about the inconvenience of all this, but we have decided to postpone our opening until Friday the 29th.
With little sun, cold and wind, everything is behind, and we have been stressed about having to sell plants that aren't ready. And after this weekend, the temperatures drop back to 30s at night.
So with apologies, that has to be our decision.
People are suggesting we wait a week to open, which is what we would prefer, because a lot of plants are half the size they should be at this point. Baskets and planters are not filled out like usual.
Tell me your thoughts, is it possible to postpone the opening a week, or have too many plans been made to come out on Friday.
An update: after three days of 90 degrees in the greenhouse, the sun disappeared (maybe we complained too much). As a result, our plants are behind usual in growth.
We are still opening on Friday, the 22nd at 9:00, but there is an 80% chance of rain that day, and after Sunday, there is a week of night temperatures in the 30s.
We just wanted to make you aware of conditions before you drive out here.
After three days of 90 degrees in the greenhouse, we have to bribe Riley with cookies to keep her working.
After an especially challenging start, we are working hard to be ready to open Friday, April 22.
We want to take the time to thank everyone for another amazing year in the greenhouse. We hope everyone's plants made it through the frosts and now no rain. Watering keeps things alive, but without rain, they aren't going to be their best.
Also, we want to apologize for the chaos on opening day. We knew it was going to be busy, but we were not prepared for the crowds that came. We thank you for your patience, and we'll have to decide how to do it better by next year.
While my annuals are waiting for the rains, some of my shrubs were the best they've been in years. This is one of my Lilac bushes and a Weigela.
But the annuals in the front of Jenny's house are pretty impressive.
Would love to see pictures from your yards.
Sorry, we've been so busy I forgot to update. Some things are a little behind, but most plants are ready, so we are opening April 23 at 9:00 without appointments. We will open 9-5 Monday-Saturday, and 12-5 on Sundays. And please be aware that we take checks or cash, but are not set up to take debit or credit cards. We will wear masks and try to limit the number of people in each greenhouse. Thank you.
It's been a challenging year. We still have thousands of seedlings to transplant, but we are working long hours trying to be ready on time. We think we are going to open April 23 without appointments, but will update when it gets closer to the time.
Thanks. Cathy
Below zero temperatures, snow half-way up the greenhouse, and supplies arriving weeks late, but we are working. Even recruited Granddaughter Riley to help out.
Let's build greenhouses on our farm in northern Illinois. That will be fun.π
Happy Spring!
Thank you all for your kind words, and for sharing pictures of your flowers. We would love to see photos of your planters and gardens as the summer goes on.
This is the catmint in bloom on our well, one of my planters, and the Honeysuckle vine next to our garage.
