Shane needs a kidney
As many of you know my husband Shane needs a kidney so this site will contain information and updates
It has taken a couple days to sink in but we have gotten amazing news that we have a kidney match for Shane. 💚 Over the last week or so we had to do some final cross match but got the news that all is good and surgery has been set. We will have to have a few more appts and tests prior to surgery but if all goes well we will proceed. This is possible through the kidney paired exchange and we are so beyond grateful for the amazing person who will be donating their kidney for Shane and in return I am honored to be able to give that same gift to someone else in need. We will be crossing our fingers along with lots of prayers that everything goes smoothly over the next few weeks so we can proceed. To this donor, whomever you are, you will never know the depths of thanks we feel for you. Thank you will never be enough!!❤️
Shane and I were able to meet and listen to Dr Kumar during a panel discussion at UAB at one of our classes and she was so informative and just amazing.

THE BIG ASK:THE BIG GIVE - Start a conversation about living organ donation It is against the law to buy or sell organs, including kidneys. If someone contacts you to buy or sell a kidney, please disregard the request.
It’s been just over a year since we were told it was time to try and get Shane in a transplant list. It’s been a busy year to put it mildly. Countless Dr appts here at home, at UAB and Memphis. Classes, meetings, tests, procedures and evaluations. Meetings with nurses, Nephrologist, transplant surgeons, pharmacists, dieticians, coordinators ect all who have been incredibly kind. We are getting closer to dialysis but have held it a bay so far however have started to get Shane prepared by having his surgery for his fistula which then required two additional surgeries for revisions which hopefully will be the last he has to do. It has been so incredibly busy and yes overwhelming but we are so grateful because through it all we have met some incredible people helping us along the way and he was lucky enough to be accepted into both programs and is on the list for transplant. We are searching for a living donor because that would be best for him. I have also gone through testing/ evaluation to be a kidney donor and they have approved me to be a donor. 💚No, unfortunately I cannot donate to Shane but possibly we can find a paired match for exchange. Shane is type B and needs a donor type B or type O and we just hope our donor will be found. Although Shane’s health has been stable for most of this year ( minus a few bumps this year including a very unexpected hospital stay while at UAB), we are very aware that this can and at some point will change. Please consider being a living donor and feel free to reach out with questions. Share with anyone you can because we need as many people to see as possible. Tomorrow it’s back to Memphis for another class where we will be flooded with more info on living donation but I’ll take all the new information we can get. Please Share your Spare 💚💚😊
Yesterday was a tough one. A week ago we received a call that we had a possible kidney through the kidney exchange, it was so exciting and overwhelming but not a guarantee. A week full of extreme emotions. Yesterday we had a call that the exchange could not move forward. It is disappointing but it was never a sure thing. Shane asked me last night if I was sad and I said NO. Disappointed of course but not sad. I choose to be hopeful and positive. I am positive that things will work out and hopeful that he will get the kidney he needs. You cannot control all the things that happen to you but you CAN control how you will react and move forward.
We will continue to be hopeful and we will find our donor💚
Living donation is such a gift and so important. Shane is lucky enough to be listed at two great facilities and I have attached living donor forms for both. Methodist Hopsital in Memphis and UAB. Please consider being a living donor. I myself have gone through the evaluation and everyone is so kind. It’s so important and so many people are waiting for this gift!❤️
Consider being a living donor❤️
