Rum Rations
The ongoing adventures of the Sailing Vessel Rum Rations
Happy National Rum Day!
In the marina at the water’s edge.
Other fish in the marina today. Anyone know what kind of fish?
What’s in the marina water today? Why it’s a juvenile barracuda.
New stack pack sail cover installed. Yes, that’s Starlink on the rail providing over 200 mb down.
New life for the old Yamaha 9.9. a clean carburetor and replaced broken gasket has her single pull starting.
Fresh mahi-mahi! I cut these 2 nice pieces from a section of the fish. Belizean all seasoning, salt, minced garlic and butter. Yum! Tonight’s version of cooking on a boat.
Atlantic Ocean on a very calm day.
Guess the sailing will be good tomorrow.
Much better, guess I’ll take the one that was damaged in the hurricane to the boy scouts for destruction.
Lunch time all around.
New batteries installed! 1/2 the old unloaded from the boat. What a pain in the ! Small battery box, small engine room. Heavy deep cycle batteries! Hot & humid with all the power off. Bruh!
Tonight‘s version of cooking on a boat, one pot meal. I had already diced up the green pepper and the onion before I thought of taking a picture. However, these are all of the ingredients. The meat is spicy Italian sausage. The cans which might be hard to see are diced unsalted tomatoes. It turned out quite tasty. Probably hard to go wrong with these ingredients.
I believe it may be time to put the 9.9 HP down. I guess, the question is, do I use the 9 mm or the 45? It truly is my nemesis.
There she is! I got the dinghy inflated, seat, cushions installed, paddles, installed, anchor installed, swim ladder installed and went for a paddle around the marina. Still need to get the outboard engine running again this season. I tested the main ship inverter this morning on the old batteries, and it works great. It easily powers, the Starlink router, TV, lights, fans, refrigerator, etc. basically everything on the boat. I have six new batteries that I still need to install. The starting battery seemed like it was reading low so I took it in and had it tested and everything came back fine fully charged. I have 6, 6 V batteries set up in series parallel. I wasn’t sure exactly how that worked so I went down a rabbit hole last night watching videos, and reading to ensure that it was set up correctly to begin with. All looks good. Basically I’m just doing a replace. However, you still have to disconnect and reconnect all of the batteries in a certain order. So, the research was well worth it.
Manatee on starboard! Just to clarify, this is in the marina, my boat is tied up and the engine is off. The manatee is completely safe. I wouldn't motor this closely to a manatee.

Not a terrible day, but I felt for the guy in this boat. It may not look like much but that is a pretty decent sized sailboat getting tossed around. I had a couple really rough trips through the inlet last month.
He let me get really close then gave me a look.
