Another myth we hear all the time is that "solar batteries aren't big enough to power your house."

This isn't true - many of our customers manage to successfully power through the night on their battery alone. Although, if you do deplete your battery's storage, buying a small amount of electricity from the grid is usually offset by the Feed-in Tariff credits you receive from your energy provider for selling excess energy back to the grid.

It's important to realise that battery storage success can be based on a variety of factors. It's dependent on your family's usage, your expectations and the capacity of your solar storage installed.

At Redback, we suggest only putting your essentials on your backup circuit. Things such as lights, internet, fridge, TV and security systems allow you to still continue to live even if there is a blackout. And if you install DC-coupled storage (such as our Smart Hybrid system) as long as the sun's still shining, you can still charge your battery even in a blackout.

With over 3M Australian homes already having rooftop solar, the next logical renewable step is the addition of home battery storage. And according to the Australian Energy Market Commission's recent report there are three things that are providing an incentive to homeowners to install a home battery:

1️⃣ Falling battery costs due to advancement in technology.
2️⃣ Longer warranty lifetimes, with Redback proudly offer a 10 year Australian-backed warranty.
3️⃣ Changes to Solar Feed-in tariffs plus tariffs for using energy in peak periods

⚠️A safety recall has been re-issued by Bunnings Warehouse for Ozito Portable Electric Blowers due to the risk of electric shock and other injuries.⚠️

The 2015 model’s (OZBL 1800WA) impeller can break during use and rupture the casing, giving access to live parts and releasing sharp objects at high speed, with the malfunction already causing several injuries.

A handy tip to share with your clients.

Turning appliances off and unplugging them from the power point saves you money – and it reduces the risk of a fire caused by electrical faults.

⚠Safety tip⚠

Never overload power points by plugging in multiple double adapters. If you need more power outlets, get a licensed electrician to install more power points or use a power board with an inbuilt overload device.

Rain in your roof space – turn off the power!

If heavy rain has got into your ceiling space, before you head up there to investigate, you must turn off the main power switch in your switchbox first.

With the power on the ceiling space is a very dangerous place – and it’s a lot worse if there’s water up there.

Stay safer up there – switch off down here! Remember to tell others in your house that you’re about to turn off the power and you’re heading up to have a look. Find out more 👉 https://www.electricalsafety.qld.gov.au/electrical-safety-home/ceiling-spaces

If you have lost power and are using a generator at your business, workplace or home please read the below information to ensure you are using it safely and with as little risk as possible. Remember, it is extremely dangerous and illegal to connect a generator to your home using a power point on a power circuit or any other connection point.
⚠️ Portable generators should only be used to power essential equipment, such as fridges.
⚠️ Only connect your generator to your house if you have had an electrical contractor fit a proper generator change-over switch with the appropriate generator socket.
⚠️Do not connect your generator to your house using a power point on a power circuit or any other connection point. This is illegal and dangerous. This could energise the powerlines and cause an electric shock to anyone coming into contact with them.
⚠️ Also, plugging the generator into your house circuit could cause the generator to fail and cause a fire, or damage the generator and circuits.
⚠️ Ensure all leads used to connect your generator are in good working condition, i.e. no damage to plugs or lead and no exposed wires.
⚠️ Only use power boards that are protected by an overload cut out.
⚠️ Place leads and power boards so they will not be affected by mechanical damage (e.g. stepped on, tripping, etc), flooding, or fire (e.g. coiled leads, overload).
⚠️ Be aware of risks including electrocution and poisoning/suffocation from carbon monoxide exhaust gases.
⚠️ Always run the generator outdoors or in a well ventilated area, don’t exceed the generator’s load rating and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

🤯 it’s worth having a quick look at your solar system every now and than 👀
This customer was wondering why their Power bill had doubled? After a quick inspection they noticed the DC isolator was warped and contacted us to inspect. Upon inspection we found the system to be just out of warranty and installed with no glands up on The roof which lead to water ingress down at the inverter 😱.
It proves cheap systems usually result in poor workmanship 👎🏽👎🏽
