We are excited to announce our first-ever virtual resolutions workshop, happening this month! This workshop will be facilitated by Sharon Svarny Livingston, who has many years’ experience in this area.

For many years, the resolutions workshop was an essential component of the Village Seminar when we gathered in-person prior to the TAC Annual meeting. This was no longer possible once the shareholder resolutions deadline was moved to October 1st, before the in-person meetings. Shareholder resolutions have since become much less of a focus in our corporation, which some support as a positive change. Others, however, see this as a decline in the opportunity for shareholders to participate in the corporation.

While it is true that the Aleut Corporation board directors are elected by the shareholders to be our representatives, there are shareholders who strongly support the idea of the resolutions process as another healthy way for shareholders to have an active role in the corporation. Shareholder resolutions have long held a steady role in our corporation, precisely because they provide a way for shareholders to collectively voice opinions and provide insight to the board and management about shareholders’ priorities.

If you have thoughts, opinions and priorities you want to share as a shareholder that you feel need to be addressed, please join us at this Virtual workshop!

52nd Annual Meeting of Shareholders Learn more about The Aleut Corporation's 52nd Annual Meeting of Shareholders, to be held October 12, 2024 in Anchorage, AK.

I've been getting some questions on whether I know what an AK Native Settlement Trust is and my thoughts on it being in the proxy packet this year, so I thought I would touch on it / my opinion.

I actually submitted a Resolution to TAC in 2021 requesting a Settlement Trust be established, as we were/are the last AK Native Regional Corporation to establish & utilize! That Resolution, however, did not make it past the Board, for a shareholder vote, at that time. I am glad to see it is finally happening!

So, the question is, do I agree with establishing one? Yes, I do!
I think it is a great tool to help Corporations offset tax liabilities, but more importantly, I think they HELP our shareholders (many of whom are elders on set/limited incomes) receive tax-free distributions.
